I hear nothing. Nor do I feel any sensation when the pylon hits the ground. It’s just an animated gif to me.

I have tinnitus so maybe that affects my perception.

I'd imagine any silent gif containing something that's obvious what the noise would be would make you think of that sound/feeling.

If it was an engine getting revved and the rev counter going up/bouncing off the limiyer I'd imagine that sound.

If it was Yngwie Malmsteen playing his guitar I'd think of his sound....etc

Imo; if the clip was shown without any mention of a sound being "audible" and if the viewer had no previous knowledge of a supposed sound, it wouldn't be perceived as anyhting more than a daft gif.

i can't hear it, but i can imagine the thump as it hits the ground.

there was an interesting documentary a while back about the subconcious and what it does for us, like for example a lot of what we think we see is in fact just a construct of our imagination that's built up from previous experiences, it's the explanation for things like not being able to find something even when you're looking right at it (if your brain is imagining it to be somewhere else) or seeing ghosts in terms of things appearing in our peripheral vision that we don't expect to be there.

Yeah I don't actually hear it I kind of just imagine a thud sound as it's landing. I guess because that's kind of what my brain expects I would hear.

I have absolutly 0 qualifications in this field but I'd guess the phychological effect is caused by the shaking of the gif as the pilon lands. I assume it's related to how your eyes react to bass frequencies or something. Who knows haha!

Ha...I'm with you...I can't visualize at all. But I can imagine the sound of this pylon...or any other sound I know.
This thread is pretty much an audio version of yours!
'If I ask you to imagine the sound of a Pylon jumping up and down'...although there's visuals already I suppose.... You get the idea!

You can not hear a thud, there is no sound....

Hello and welcome to the point of the thread being based on the knowledge that there is no sound but some people perceive something which isn't there.

I can "hear" the thudding. Its weird. :p

Yep I can hear the thudding sound, it doesnt sounds like it's coming from anywhere at all (my ears aren't affected) but I hear a thud in the front of my brain if that's makes any sense!

nothing, has any expert explained it yet?
I expect it's just another brain error which feels on the blanks. Looks like it should make some noise and so some people here it.
