Hi all,

I have a USB pen which I use to store all my important stuff on (encrypted) as there is too much to remember. Is it necessary to backup data such as driving license or passport number though? I guess i'm trying to find out hard it will be to get a new license/passport if I were to lose my originals? Does anyone else back this kind of info up?

Thanks

Not that kind of stuff, but I have measures in place to keep those documents safe. *Touches wood* May they continue to hold.

I also wouldn't really use a flash drive as the sole back up method. Use it by all means, but as part of a system to store your backups.

^Asprilla - what does DOD mean?

I use two SD cards to store all my passwords and pin numbers on. The first card I use everyday. The second card I keep stashed away and hidden, the reason is I mentioned my data storage habits before and someone mentioned what I would do if the card became unreadable, to which I said, not be able to get into my accounts but then neither would anyone else. But the more I though about it, the more I realised that was stupid and I needed a back up. Every password I have for every website is different and in some cases 64 characters long. So I need to store them in a text file as remembering everything would be impossible. Also stores pin numbers for banks / cards. Serial numbers for software I have purchased (mirc and AVG suite).

My business accounts and records are stored on an external SATA drive and USB flash and laptop. Passwords and account numbers are on my mobile phone in such a way as to be meaningless to anyone else ( I hope!)

Backing up emails I find a bit problematic as I use Thunderbird. Mozbackup doesn't always work for me.

All my important stuff is backed up by Mozy. For £2.50 a month everything is stored over in the US. Protects me from house fire / theft and saves me having to use multiple drives for the same data.

Initial upload takes a while but it's incremental there on.

my 8gb USB stick has my work and few other things, which I back up to my macbook every few weeks. So that's not really backed up, but I like to think it is.

I know if I lost my home pc or macbook I'd be stuffed, losing photos, music and videos.

i keep photocopies of anything important at my mum's house

as regards to data..

i backup..

Music
Vidoes
Photos
Savegames
Steam dir

~900gb to backup, so i have 3 backups of it all, again, one at my mum's house

Beat me to it. I have 150Gb on their servers currently :o But it's the cheapest/safest form of backup I can find for the amount of effort I'm willing to put in :p
