Hi all

Ok, for a few weeks now I've been thinking about upgrading from my Dell 2407-HC wfp to a newer 24 inch , but now I'm starting to look at some 27 inch screens. The Dell UltraSharp U2711 or the U2713 HM.
I've noticed that the U2711 is LCD and the U2713 LED so I can imagine that there is quite noticeable difference in picture and colour quality between the two.
Can anyone offer up some friendly advice on what screen you think is the better. :)

For gaming i personally would go for a HP ZR2740W as it has low input lag for an IPS panel and provides very good image quality. Both of those Dell models have average input lag and it can be quite annoying in certain games but other than that they are very nice monitors.

LED is just the backlighting technology used on the U2713HM and the screen still remains an LCD panel. The U2711 is LCD still but used older style CCFL backlighting technology. Led is more widely used now for lower power consumption, thinner screen profiles and as they are more environmentally friendly

What will make a difference to the appearance of the screens here is the fact that the U2711 uses a wide gamut backlight unit and so offers a much wider colour space the fanfare sRGB backlight of the U2713HM. Wide gamut is normally only beneficial to those who specifically need to work with wide gamut content for photography and high end work. For most others it's more problematic than beneficial as it creates complications with colour management and over saturation of colours from "normal" content. Would recommend you look into this a bit more if you are thinking about a wide gamut screen

Have a read of the U2713HM review at TFT central as there's direct comparisons between the two. The U2713HM offers better responsiveness and would be more suited to gaming as a result. Also being free of the pretty obvious dark overshoots shown on the U2711

If you decide you do actually want wide gamut then there's the new U2713H coming very soon which will replace the U2711. But probably over kill cost wise unless you need some of the higher end features for high end work. The U2713HM is a more suitable main stream model for general use and gaming etc

Thanks for the info Baddass.
Will the U2713H or 16:9 or 16:10??

I'm looking at getting a 27" monitor & 2560 x 1440 resolution but can't decide to go with the Dell or the DGM.
