Hi all,

I'm curious what desktop environment do you use?

I use Ubuntu base, with unity removed, and with KDE installed.

I LOVE KDE. :D

The reason why I ask is because I know there are a lot of them, but which one is mostly used by the peeps on OCUK. :)

I moved to Linux Mint a while back when 10.04 lost LTS (last Ubuntu with a decent WM, RIP :p) and liking Cinnamon, had a few stability issues back on Mint 15 but on the most recent release it's a nice solid WM, doesn't do anything fancy but that's what I like :)

Whatever it is you get with a standard install of Ubuntu. Too lazy to care what it's called or does differently to others and get on with it fine.

Bash, Desktop Environments are for the puny.

And sometimes LXDE - because if I really feel I need a desktop environment, it's about as lightweight as one gets while feeling familiar.

I have used Cinnamon when it was in early stages of development, and quite liked it.

I'm not really fussed about twilight one, because I don't find my desktop slow at all. :)

Not fond of unity though. :p

the latest cinnamon on mint 17.1 is really nice. enough to replaced mate and xfce as a daily driver. the new compositing feature effectively has eliminated all my vsync issues on video playback and full screen gaming. you don’t need to turn on vsync in games or off as the compositor overrides all, but it can be toggled if you need. The other benefit is that there is no mouse lag even with vsync on.

I think any conflict between nvidia+game+compositor has been ironed out as my fps is also very high now on all games.

KDE!!!!!! :D (Mageia 4)

Also gave the new Mint(17.1) a spin in a VM, KDE all so. Seems nice, not bad seen as I detest *buntu/based distros. I have to confess at been in the RPM camp in *nix :p

Yeah, hate *buntu distros. Don't know why, probably because it's common?
I currently use Arch with Cinnamon. Have a few other desk top environments installed and use depending on the type of work I do.

Just switched to cinnamon 2.4 for my Backbox4, massive performance increase over xfce for gaming and especially Wine gaming. Even though I hate the UI I will stick with it until xfce catches up.

BTW, whats with the "*buntu"? I can understand why with *nix, but not Ubuntu.

LXDE and will be moving to LXQT when it's a little bit more mature - looks nice and is super lightweight which is the most important for me.
