I don't think my purchases were smart on the whole. I can't actually believe, when they are all laid back to back, how many graphics cards I've bought in just the last 7 years. It's about 1 every 9 months.

buying a new card every 9 months doesnt qualify as a bad thing

selling your GTX to buy 2X GT ... now thats stupid...

Ken, to me your purchases all look sound, no sideways movements as far as upgrades go, each step gave you good value for money and good performance over the last.

yours looks odd to me, you were buying more than one of the same card, why?
i mean ive had more cards than i listed, but they were out of date ones for a second machine, which i did not include as it doesnt show how a person upgraded their main gaming machine.
not only that, but you were buying the next revision of some cards, small pointless upgrades for maybe 10fps more.

sensible people bought one card from each class, eg gf1, gf2, gf3, gf4, gfFX, gf6x00,gf7800, with about 1yr inbetween, which was required to play newer games

Cant remember the years of mine, not had many like.

Ive had Voodoo 3, GF2 Mx, GF3, GF4 Ti4600, 9800pro, x800pro, x800 XT PE, and the card im on now x1800 XT 512mb bought when they appeared last year.

umm guys, that list is NOT in time-order

I keep upgrading/downgrading all the time, when I know theres a new card coming out, I sell the high-end one and buy something basic, thats why I have more than one of the same card

sometime, I buy the card which I owned before, just to play and see if if could surpass the one I had.

I get bored with gfx really quick , thats also the reason why I have had 28 cards

dont think that list will increase a lot from now on though as I dont have time for benching/gaming anymore and for the record, Ive been with my current 7800GT since Jan

@kinggost: nope, either use them to build machine for friends or sold already, normally I never have more than 2 cards at the same time

Leadtek Geforce3 ti200 - £130(Can't remember when I got this, must've been 2001/2002) Loved it, still goin in my Dad's PC.

GeForce 6800GT AGP bought in 2004 - £300 Lovin' it still.

1999 - Maxi Gamer 3dfx. Think it had 4MB on board? Cost £100

2002 - GForce 4. Ti 4600 I think it was? Bought as a present, can't remember how much it was?
2004 - ASUS Radeon 9250. £80 second hand from a friend.
2005 - Galaxy 6800GT Clocked at 400/1100 (Current card). £260.

Matrox 8mb Card - Thought I was god with this, hehehehe
Riva TNT Ultra2 32MB - my greatest and bestest card ever, the DON
Geforce2 Ti 64MB - Still sitting around in my house
Geforce4 MX440 64MB - Lasted a while, but definitely not one of my better cards
Radeon 9600 - Another top ranking card, loads of fun with this one
X800GT - My curent card, and a bit of a cracker...

hmmmmmmmm, my Voodoo was just great for a while

just looked so cool and you had to love those 2 GPU's!

Best card(s) had to be my two ATi cards in AGP of the 9600pro and the 9800pro awesome cards! Both offered great upgrades at the time and brill performance, plus were steals at the prices and times i got them at!

I can hardly remember them all.
First was in 1992, a Cirrus Logic 512KB ISA card for my first PC build, which was a 486DX-33 based system.

After that it went something like this (All rough dates and I know I am missing out some) -

1995 - VLB Diamond Stealth 2MB DRAM - Short lived as I moved to a PCI system shortly after.
1995 - PCI Diamond Stealth 2MB DRAM - These cards rocked at the time
1996 - PCI ATI Rage3D 4MB
1996/7 - PCI Rage3D Turbo 8MB
1997 - PCI ATI All-In-Wonder 8MB - Wow 3D and TV in one card
1997 - PCi or AGP ? ATI All-in-Wonder 16MB
1997/8 - PCI VideoLogic PowerVR - My first dedicated 3DCard
1998/9 - AGP ? Voodoo2 12MB
2000/1 - AGP Radeon 32MB (I think) - The original Radeon
2002 - AGP Radeon 8500 64MB
2002 - AGP All-in-Wonder 8500DV 64MB- With X10 Remote control
2002/3 - AGP Hercules Radeon 9500 Pro
2004 - AGP Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB
2005 - AGP Sapphire Radeon X800XL 256MB
2006 - PCI-E Connect3D Radeon X1800XT 256MB - The latest addition

Sure I had a couple more ATI Rage3D cards, seemed to be buying them all the time.
