What did you learn to drive in?

mini van, ford cortina mk3 estate and took test in ford cortina mk5 2.0 ghia, the examiner was a bit surprised by my choice of car for the test.

My instructor used a Corsa B, 1.6GSi, which was lowered and chipped, looks wise it was standard bar the lowering, it was fairly quick. He was a strange old chap though.
He also had a brand new (2002) 1.6 Astra G with a vauxhall fitted bodykit, but I mainly used the Corsa.

I wonder why there aren't more instructors using diesels? They're much harder to stall and with the amount of miles they must be doing surely they are more economical? Is it simply the initial increased outlay?

Many do around here now, very few did when was learning 4 years ago though.

Sukuzi Ignis followed by a Mini One. Mini was a lovely car, just the price think he payed about £12/13k for it. Still as long as it got me out of the ignis I couldn't care less, felt worse put together than both my Clios and thats saying something.

Instructors car was a Peugeot 106 diesel
I also used my mums old car occasionally - 1991 Corolla 1.3 petrol

Isn't it better to learn in a petrol though because they are easier to stall, get used to them whilst learning rather than after passing.

A Vauxhall viva HA which was replaced the week before my test with a Morris 1300 ( I failed :( )
My own car was an Austin A40 which an uninsured driver wrote off while my mother was driving it the day after my next test ( I passed that one :( )

Well I did think about that, perhaps the pupil ends up a slightly better driver initially after the test is passed, but if I was an instructor I think I'd rather give my pupils the best chance possible once at the dreaded test centre.

Learnt to drive in a couple of cars - my driving instructor had a Hyundai Accent (horrifically bad car), and I also drove with my parents in the Fiat Seicento that I still have. Took my test in the Fiat.

I'd rather than my instuctor was teaching me good car control, than was using a diesel to compensate for my lack of ability. I intially learnt in a diesel, and I still have trouble with petrol cars and not giving them enough gas. (thats after a year learning in a petrol and a few weeks with my own car)
