What different or new hardware would you like to see in a new iPhone?

some kind of head/ear phone controls that allow me to use other ear phones would be great.

Ive spent the last 7 or so years (god thats a long time) using ipods with actual buttons so i can control everything from my pocket on the move. With the iPhone you cant do this easily, so i actually use a 1st gen ipod shuffle. But also the earphones that come with the iPhone are a joke so it would have to be compatible with other earphones. Other than that its good. I think they should either abolish the camera or make it actually good. To me the idea of the iphone is that it has everything, yet i don't use it for music or the camera. Infact to me its just a phone that has access to the internet.

Only thing for me is battery. Since that is the main thing they quoted as preventing true background apps from running. Then better performance.

I can live with 16gb memory and a 2mp camera. If these were improved however then all the better
 
Camera removing altogether - then it becomes a moot point - I have never used a camera on a phone and unless they incorporate someting that resembles a half decent sensor (forget mega pixels they equate to nothing - I want a physically larger array) with optical glass lense - then you may as well not bother IMHO. The problem is the iphone will then become an ibrick to accomodate a half decent sensor.

For me I'd rather have a disk mode facility for transfering files and storing them on the iphone.

How about an OLED display to reduce power consumption and extend battery life.

I also like orange's UMA where if you cant get a signal you can connect via wifi to use a wireless access point as a pico cell.

Flash drive port - maybe incorporated into the USB lead so that you can connect a flash drive and copy data from it.

Rather than just tethering, the ability to turn your iphone into a wifi access point - so the iphone acts as a wireless access point bridging to the 3g modem to become a cellular wifi point allowing multiple users to connect.

Satelite phone cradle - turning your iphone into a sat phone.

Here is a novel idea, ship the iphone with some form of case or slip cover and a screen protector.

Mil Spec iphone - built out of mil spec components and housed in a ruggedized body - maybe titanium alloy or kevlar composite with a synthetic sapphire screen (like Rolex or Omega watches) and IP rated sealed ports.

Gigabit enabled docking port for fast data transfer

Embedding the back of the iphone with a high efficiency pv cell so that it can charge itself or at least top up its battery when not being used.
 
Rumours of an OLED screen are growing. If it's half as nice as the OLED screen on the OmniaHD, it should be good. :)
 
Have OLED screens improved in the last few years? I had a Zen MicroPhoto with an OLED screen, and in sunlight it was unreadable.
 
I think it'd be nice for a camera on the front of the iPhone, then you could have iChat incorporated. :p

Also just like mentioned in a post above, start shipping with a cover similar to what you get with the blackberry phones. :D

Better battery life however is my primary concern with the iphone

If it had better battery life (even an extra days worth) then it would make all the difference.

Basically enough that I can talk for two days whilst also surfing the web and listen to music etc.

Just so it lasts a TWO FULL DAYS leaving me with room to breath in case I forget to charge it one day.
 
A metal back like the old @g iPhone. I hate the curved plastic back of my new 3G. Everything else is great (I dont really use the camera in anger) except the battery life!
 
• 32GB at least
• Better battery life
• Apps to work in the background (from the App Store)
• Less lag
• Better quality camera with flash
• Higher resolution screen, although I wouldn't be too bothered by this
