Just installed Bioshock and started thinking. What difficulty setting should I put it on to get the most out of the game. Ive chose 'Medium' as I didnt want to be dieing every to seconds and that would put me off the game completely.

So when you install or play a game what setting do you put it on for the first time around?

i played on medium but to be honest it was too easly, the beginning was quite hard but once you get weapons and powers it gets easier

I generally don't play many games through a second time, so always go for the hardest setting so that I get my moneys worth - if it's too tough you usually only end up replaying the first level. This approach backfired bigtime on Wolfenstein though; 90% of the way through the game and it just got impossible. I ended up having to use an invincibility cheat  rather than replay the whole game.

I usually play on easy just so I can kick back and enjoy the storyline of the game. I guess that applies to RTS games a bit more since on hard settings the designers usually let them cheat instead of coding genuinely good AI.

I normally play on "Normal" or whatever the mid setting is for games. Never bother with hard as I'd rather enjoying games than be screaming at the monitor when I get killed loads :) Some games I've had to switch to Easy during mid-play, such as Gears of War near the end of the game as the last boss was ******* 'ard :/

I usually play on the default setting for most games. Then if the game is good I'll replay it on a harder setting (about to do so with BS :D)

I always play games on the Hard setting. It makes the game last longer that way and I get more enjoyment out of it!

lol I just get killed over and over before giving up and never touching the game again if I do that:

HL2: Started on normall, never finished, about halfway
Far cry: Easy, died over and over in a later lvl, about 3 quarters through the game, never finished.
Quake 4: same as hl2
Doom3: on easy I can't even get past the 1st lvl, abotu at the beginning of the game.
Etc...

Gamers play on hard usually, so thats what i pick when i play, sure i die sometimes but its no fun when u play against easy ai etc. Hard with hard ai and the odds against u etc is that much more fun and makes you a better player for it.

if its a fps these days i stick it on hard, because after all it makes it last a bit longer.

imo its a bit cheating if you complete it on easy then try the hardest setting, because you know every thing that will happen which makes it easier 2nd time around.

With RTS games i usually stick it on normal, buti l try a few skirmish missions first see how easy or hard it is.

Usually all the difficulty settings, though if a game has "realistic" setting I would do that first.

Some games require you to play over and over on all the difficulty settings to get extras - more exp. different skills etc.

easiest usually :)
i hate getting stuck on 1 particular spot, i remember one spot quite far in to resi 4 that i simply had to give up on the game, i couldnt do it
(and that was the easiest setting btw!)

Easy, but then I very rarely play single player, it's just really dull. In multiplayer I seek out the toughest opponents.

It depends on the game, for BioShock I thought It was gonna be pretty easy from the demo, especially hacking turrets etc, so I've started it on Hard and it's just about right.

I always start a game on the lowest setting, easy or normal if thats not available :P i like to go through it 1st and not have to worry that much about being awesome at it haha, then when it's done with the 1st time round, i move onto the harder settings, i always try all of the settings though, even if it's just to try it out

Usually medium.

Easy on demos, especially if it's a different/unique game.
