What difficulty setting do you play a game the first time?

Has anyone every completed COD1 and 2 on anymore than medium? I've tried but I just get uber pwned even 2mins :(

Grandma (very easy) level. First of all, I'm an old man - and my reactions and co-ordination weren't good when I was young either. Second, I like to take at least some time to look around me to see how the devs have done. But mostly the first reason. To show how rubbish I am, I'd had to put Far Cry into God Mode by about thirty minutes into the game. But it was still one of the few games I've finished.

Gamers play on hard usually, so thats what i pick when i play, sure i die sometimes but its no fun when u play against easy ai etc. Hard with hard ai and the odds against u etc is that much more fun and makes you a better player for it.

U never finish sp games though because you get bored of it you said on msn :p.
I get bored of dieing on hard always: easy ***, nice and relaxing and enjoyful gaming instead of stressing and condentrating about not dieing on hard.

I found COD1 and 2 easier than most games hardest settings. Games Ive struggled with though are FarCry and recently S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Only completed FarCry on medium and had to restart S.T.A.L.K.E.R. to play on novice setting due to finding it near impossible to kill an enemy, even after getting headshots they just wernt dying.

I am playing Bioshock on Medium, one easy it's so easy it's pathetic, one hit kills with the shotgun O_o, stuck it on medium and thats about right for me, same for HL2, I was playing on easy, and found it too easy, stuck it on medium and played it all the way through, HL2 has been the game I've got the most out of compared to any other game ever, well, I dont think it can compete with Sonic and Sonic 2 tbh in terms of getting moneys worth :p.

normal, but if i read a review about a game that says its really easy i play the game on its hardest settings then, like farcry and cod2.

Farcry is really easy? ouch.

I played on medium I think and it was a pretty tough challenge and I consider myself a capable gamer! :)

I accept the default usually. Truth is, I suck at games.... fps' at least. I'm no "competitor", least not as much as I enjoy an unusual circumstance, or bit of fun.

I don't want to lose, but I know I can't win in the long run... so I enjoy the longrun as much as I can. Hard mode Is for masochists, and if you like that then fine. But human life is about compromise.

I play at medium/normal/default difficulty for the first time.

If I find things incredibly tough then I might (if the game is good enough) switch to easy. In the best designed games you can change difficulty on the fly, i.e. start high but adjust down on tough levels.

I can understand why some people like playing on Hard/hardest to make the game last longer, but personally I don't have enough time for playing games as it is.

Incidentally I found Quake2 so easy when replaying that not only did I use the hidden "hard+" skill setting (only available through console), I also had to set myself additional limitations like banning myself from using powerups or the BFG. Even then I had to also ban myself from saving midlevel (i.e. dying = restart level).

medium/normal usually, if not easy, some games such as sports/racing though i tend to play on hard for a greater enjoyment
