What Distro on old Laptop?

How old are we talking? Lightweight distros that spring to mind are puppy linux, Lubuntu (note: not very light weight but due to use of LXDE much lighter than other ubuntu variations) and SliTaz.

Sure. You would just need to install ice-weasel (unbranded firefox) and open office after the install which is just a matter of clicking on a package link or running a few command lines. If you start now you will have it all sorted in about one hour if using net install. See www.debian.org and you are away.

depending on the specs of the laptop, lubuntu or what im using to type this on my netbook, crunchbang. You might also get away with Linux Mint

And it would run well on a pretty old machine? Basicly want it for web browsing on couch, and to maybe play some games I got from the HUmble INdie Bundle (VERY light gaming), and maybe some word processing.

Again, we need to know how old you are talking. I.e. if we are talking pentium ii or something then I wouldn't be putting debian (at least not the full vanilla version) any where near it. What are the specs of this machine?

Ubuntu's last but one LTS (10.04) should still be available, it should run on anything with 512MB Ram.

No unity to render, so should be on most machines unless to mean really old.

been using lubuntu on a dell D610 (1.8ghz P4, 512mb ram) and it was fine
having said that I'm about to install crunchbang because of a failed update.
