Looking to build my first Gaming PC for 8 years and I feeling confused now with all the different standards of USB. I'm planning on using a case with a USB C port and wondering how to connect this to an Asus ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING Wi-Fi II. Do I need en extra adaptor for the motherboard or should I chose a different one around the same cost. Thanks for any help.

You can buy a PCIe USB-C expansion card with the front panel connector but it's probably better to get a motherboard that already has one. ROG Strix B550-E has it if you can still find one for sale.

Gigabyte B550 AORUS ELITE AX V2 has a internal usb c header for the case front port, as does the non WiFi version of the same model motherboard.

the other question would be
what do you intend
to use the usb c port for?
as you said the usb standards are totally confusing
just because its usb c
doesnt actually tell you anything
theres 5Gbs,10Gbs,20Gbs,40Gbs may even be an 80Gbs now
not sure about 80Gbs though
then theres power delivery
mine can deliver 60w if i remember correctly
so your intended use is pretty important

Probably just for connecting my phone to transfer files at the moment. I have a separate charger for charging. The case has a USB C port so I might as well use it..

Won't the case USB-C connector fit the USB v3.2 Gen 1 header (just below the 24 pin ATX connector) on the motherboard? It will give you USB-C but be limited to 5gbps. If you want the full 10gbps you will need a pci-e add-on card.

I'm still in the process of planning the build. Not actually finalised the parts. Looking at mainly Corsair case, cooler and memory with 5800 CPU. I already have a Corsair PSU from my current build. Will use my 5600XT to start with but think that will be a weak link.
