I just purchased Battlefiel 4 and to my shock it doesn't run at all well.

So I need to upgrade:

CPU is an Intel Core Quad Q6600 @2400 Ghz
Graphics is a Geforce 8800 GTS
3GB of RAM

I have had a look around and I believe the CPU is ok but I think I need to :

Add 1GB of RAM - ordered.
Replace the GPU, but what should I get ?

The only other game I play is Call of Duty.

Any advice as to what I should do appreciated. I would budget £150 for a new GPU.
 
For £150 you can get some amazing deals for used cards but you won't be able to access the Members Market for a nice deal unfortunately because you're brand new to the website but a popular bidding website we all know and love can offer some great used deals.

If you're looking to buy brand new at £150 then an AMD Card might be your best bang for buck. An R9 270x might be your best bet but a lot of people on here seem to love the Nvidia side of things so there is always an option of an Nvidia GTX 760 if you want to up your budget a little bit.

Also, if you're into your first person shooters you might want to give Counter Strike a go. It's a tough game to get into but a little bit of effort, time and lowering your sensitivity you'll become a god and realize how bad other FPS games are! A bonus is that it is very easy to run (Source Engine) so you should get decent FPS on your current system!

I had same cpu as you but clocked to 3.1 and 8 gig of ram and using an Asus R9 270 and played battle field 4 on medium to high setting.
 
As said, TTY and grab a cheap 270/280 and an aftermarket cooler to over clock your CPU, if you don't already have one. Gettibg it to 3-3.2 should be fine and it will improve your performance
