what do people use linux for?

We use it as a home server here to handle file sharing, printing and torrents.

You can't post a poll yourself by the way, only moderators (dons and above) can do that.

I use it on desktops. I use it on my home server. I use it on my HTPC. I don't really use it on my laptop much since Broadcom's driver support is so terrible.

Desktop OS dual booted on my laptop. The only reason it's dual boot is I just haven't bothered to dump XP yet even though I no longer use it \o/ (on the laptop at least)

Home server (usual stuff), one of my dev servers and my trusty T23 Thinkpad (you'd be surprised how much quicker Ubuntu is than XP.. P1.13GHz and 512Mb ram is good for both but Ubuntu copes better..)

main box = Arch = desktop work + fun
desktop 2 = Arch / XP = but it's in bits at the moment until i can get a new psu :(
server = gentoo = file server
laptop 1 = Arch = laptop stuff (interweb + "portable" music centre)
laptop 2 = Arch = as above, but generally used for parties and events because it's old and i'm not too bothered about drinks / rain / mud getting on it!!

Desktop, fun, development work.
Server, NAS, repository, dns, gateway, proxy, webserver, email, rsync, etc.

Both Gentoo.

Company also uses Gentoo as a platform for our applications.

I have 4 boxs at the moment running Linux Ubuntu x64 for folding.

2x Q6600's with Native Linux running 2x VMware Servers on each machine (both with Ubuntu installed)

2x E2160's both with Ubuntu 7.10
