OK i need some general advice here. I am a first year uni student at dmu in leicester studying law. I dont mind the course and the uni itself is not to bad but i am just not enjoing it.

What exactly do you all do at uni that makes the "uni experiance" so good and fun because i cant work it out. I go to lectures and tutorial, somtimes miss some, dont do much after uni work so have lots of spare time. But i seem to spend a lot of time doing nothing and being bored.

I like going out on nights out bit the music is totally different to what i like so dont enjoy it as much as back home. I get rnb music instead of chart, dance, and party which is what i get in cannock.

Plus i cant go out more than about twice a week as its expencive and wrecks my sleeping pattern!

I go to rhilies sometimes as we live on top but i used to do that back home so thats not new!

We eat out sometimes but again this is expencive and time consuming and can oly be done sometimes.

So what is it that i am doing wrong!?

The people, the activities, the place, the freedom, the experiences.

The work can be long.. and time consuming.. but its all part of the life.

freedom, friends, booze, women. I currently work a 9-5 following the uni experience and I crave the amount of free time students have. I don't miss the essays, exams or lack of cash however I am going back next year. You thought about a part time job to fill that boredom gap and bring some more cash into the equation? Bar work can be hard graft but also great fun with a fantastic social aspect.

It doesnt work out for everyone, personally i hated uni, i didnt get on with the student lifestyle and couldnt get on with having such a rubbish income.

I left and now have a whole house to myself and enough money to enjoy myself.

gotta agree with that 100%, currently studing at uni near by, dont have a close knit of mates so it kinda sucks

I think thats the problem i have. I dont really have any close mates at uni. I have about 2/3 friends that live in the same building and i have loads of friends i chat to in the law building but its just not the same as sixth form.

I might get a job for the extra cash and social experiance. I love meeting and talking to people but even i get bored of just talking to random new people about there life!

to begin with it was the freedom, I can play my music loud if i want etc etc. Now i sit up all night doing my coursework because i want a 1st :)

Either way it still seems worthwhile to me. Having experienced a year in work (albeit as an intern) all i can say is Students: enjoy your time at university!!

I think for some people its the chance to doss about, for others its the challenge of the course, for others its an easier way of life for a few years and for a very select few it just isnt right for them.

I must say that although I enjoyed it. I found it to be hugely overrated. Huge hype surrounding student culture coincidently coinciding with Labours plan to get X% of young people, especially those from working class backgrounds, into full time education. Good for the figures and the economy. Conspiracy theorists unite..

/random digression over.

sleeping pattern!

Since when have students cared about sleep? This is where your problem lies. I've only just applied to uni and I have no such pattern whatsoever and do not expect to have one for the next 3 years either. IMO if you drop the care for a sleeping pattern you'll have a lot more fun and get the "Uni experience" you're looking for for example staying up all night and waking up lying in cold pizza with no idea where you are.

Three and a half years of university have taught me that that particular 'student experience' is vastly overrated, particularly when you have shedloads of work due in in the next X weeks.

im loving it in general. Iv found that it allows you to do what you love, easier. I play loads of sport and have a wicked bunch of mates because of that. I dont like going out loads and getting wasted to the point of being sick but as long as i just remember what makes me happy and do that; ill be happy.

Uni gives you the oppertunity to do whatever you love more than at home.

The social life and the huge number of opportunities to do thing i've never done before. You'd be hard pushed to run out of things to do at uni.

Yeh, ive always enjoyed dancing, but never really given it a proper go at home.. just wasnt right..

Got to uni and instantly joined the breakdancing society.. and its fantastic!

I'm enjoying myself. Like having the freedom, I can't afford to go out that much but all the people on my course are great and seeing as there is 70 of us its crazy to think that we are all good friends. The work is challenging and enjoyable and apart from being skint I love it.

I hate my course, I really like my friends, my job (although I need a new one to make ends meet!) but I can foresee myself walking in the "debt recovery" office of the uni with a loaded shotgun one day...

I get rnb music instead of chart, dance, and party which is what i get in cannock.

Zanzi on a monday plays dance, chart, party etc. in the mainroom and im sure thats what they play on a wednesday.

The best way to make a good group of friends is to join a club or society. Try it next year and hopefully things will look up

I spanked about 8k (cash I'd earnt in my 'gap year', so not running up debt) on my first and only year at uni. I'd go out most nights, student nights of course. I managed 16 nights in a row, very drunk every night, once. After which my tongue had turned yellow and I went to the Lake District for a week to de-tox :D.

I wish I could go back...
