Yeah. Thats what we had to do. We had no other choice but to go back. Trouble was, we had cable tied it all down, so had to go along and at intervals pull it through.
You've learnt the difficult way to not tidy cabling up until you know it works
You could probably have joined more cable onto the shorter one but it depends how far it reached (e.g. whether the end was inside a conduit run or not). If it's at the install stage then it's always best to get it done in a single run, save joining cable for when someone damages it once it's been in for a couple of years.
