What do you guys think of this spec?

It is a legit copy, but I already had a sp2 that somebody gave to me a while ago. But like you say you can download from pretty much anywhere anyway.

Another question though (sorry about this guys, you woulda thought I woulda ordered my rig by now :)), I know i'm goin to get the Antec nine hundred now, and I'm either going to get this or this, although chances are I'll probably get the modular one seen as I'm getting a case with a window in and I don't want it too look like a jungle of cables in there. But still, because the psu on a nine hundred is at the bottom, would the cables provided with these two psu's be long enough to reach the 12V atx plug near the processor side of the motherboard? (because it's like almost on the other side of the case lol)

Thanks again lads

not sure about that tbh, but I know the corsair hx 520 would reach, is there any reason you're not getting the corsair?

Erm, well mainly because I'm not planning on getting it from OcUk. I mean if the place where I am gettin the stuff from did have it, I would. I've got nothin against that PSU, in fact I know corsair make some really decent stuff. Although if I have to I might as well get the PSU from OcUk and everything else form another place if I'm not sure in the end.

Thanks for all your help anyway Yantorsen

if you really were worried, you can get extension cables for the psu, for under a fiver.

Good stuff. But like I said, I'm probably only gonna need one cable, not seen an extension for the 4pin atx plug, but they'll sell it somewhere. I think the 24pin connector's near the RAM slots so that shouldn't be an issue.

Anyway, I'm going to be ordering this stuff either the weekend after next or the one after that (promise :p), depending how much info i've got on the 8800 gt. So you'll only have to put up with me asking questions for the next 2 weeks. So I apologize in advance if I have any lol.

Knowing my luck, I bet after all this nothing'll fit and it'll all go wrong :)

haha thanks for the encouragement mate. I guess everybody has to start somewhere. I've actually started to think about what I'm gonna do with my dell. I could put it in a museum it's so old :D

Yeah I could I suppose. i'm gonna sell quite a few of the bits in it. it's amazin the prices that DDR is sellin for at the moment. It's like 3 times as much as DDR2 and there's a quite a few people with old computers who need it who are upgradin to vista.

Same with my graphics cards, i bet my 5200'll fetch about 25 on the bay and i can see my current 6200 goin for about 40 (i paid 45 for it, mainly becauseit was the best pci card i could get). Like you say, I could use it for spares though (really don't know what I could take out of it mind :P).

Might as well use it as a back up if I need to mess with my new one for any reason.

Bit off topic that anyway. If I do have any more problems I'll be sure to post on here. Glad I've got you guys on these forums to help me out. I feel like such a newbie :D

yeah ddr being so expensive is to do with economies of scale, and older gpu's is to do with the fact there hard to get hold of, and if you have an agp board, then people are willing to pay.

and don't worry about feeling like a newbie, we all start somewhere.

Woo! It's comin!

Ok ever so slightly off the original topic, but wooo! I ordered it! (Maybe week or so early). I could tell the very friendly people who helped me in the thread were gettin bored of me askin questions and wanted to see some action and so i went ahead and did the deed.

I shall not name the place I ordered it from, but for £590 (i know, £90 over budget :() with an Asus 8800gt and some of that corsair ram with the snazzy silver heatsinks it can't be that bad.

Just gotta wait till thursday now till it comes :):) In the meantime I'm transferrin everythin onto the hard drive which is bein taken over to the new rig. It's quite time consumin to say the least lol.

Oh, and maybe the last question before I get it. OK I've got three peices of software which I activated when I installed them by goin onto the net and lettin them do their thing (namely BF2, FlightSimX, and Norton 2007), will there be an issue with me installing them on my new rig? Do you think i'll have to totally install them off of my old one so that they can un-register themselves? (if they do that :D) I suppose I'm more bothered about Norton, in case it'll tell me that I can only install it once or somethin

Thanks again guys

you didn't have to order now if you didnt want to lol.

cool, do you mean the dominator corair ram?

and about the software licensing, I'm not really sure tbh.

there are plenty of good free anti-virus software available anyway.

hopw all goes well when the parts arrive, im waiting for my RMA'd parts to arrive to lol.

and i think I know which shop you got it from and if im right, then there customer service can be a bit erm.... hard to get through to lol, so fingers crossed you don't get any problems.

Yeah I know but I was getitn bored anyway, and there's nothin to do in these college holidays so i thought I'd entertain myself by buildin a pc. And yeah I think so, it's the ones that are like completely silver, kinda look like a comb :)

I'm hopin there won't be too much issues with the whole software licensing thing. I wouldn't mind usin a free Anti-virus solution it's just I only renwed my norton subscription like a month ago.

And about the shop, I've ordered from there before (well it was only one item), but they text you to confirm when your oreder's been dispatched and stuff. I suppose I can only wait and hope lol. They have their own thing in the h***s forums as well so I mean, fingers-crossed i won't have to do this, but I can contact them through there anyway.

Thanks for all you help anyway Yanto

I'd imagin if it's a supscription you have with norton it should be transferrable.

and no problem mate, just hope it all goes well.

good luck :)

You could have waited until you yourself was ready, lol. As for Norton, i have'nt a clue about transferring the license but to be honest you are better off without it. Norton is a system hog and over half the problems with pc's brought to me to fix have been Norton related. It really is a horrible piece of software. You would be much better off with AVG free antivirus and Comodo free personal firewall.

Enjoy the build and take your time. Think about the cable routing as well because it can affect the airflow.

Thanks for that pastymuncher. Even though my Norton did have another 11 months left on it, I didn't really pay that mcuh to renew it, and I know of a lot of people that dislike this program because, like you say, it causes a helluva lot of problems.

I've heard about AVG and everybody says it's good (and free :)), so I'm downloadin that as we speak. Not heard of comodo, but I'll take your advice and download that as well. Is comodo more secure than the windows firewall or somethin?

Thanks again for all your help guys

Hi again. Comodo is massively better than the Windows firewall. It's even better than a lot of the paid for varieties. I have been using it for just over 2 years now along with AVG and have never had any problems. Here's a link to it.

Don't forget anti-spyware as well. I use the following:-

Winpatrol 2007 more of a system monitor really. Constantly on guard against any unwated changes.

SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 prevents nasties installing in the first place.

a-squared free spyware scanning and removal.

Ad-aware 2007 free Again spyware detector and removal.

All are free and all work very well. I used to use Spybot but found that it was'nt as good as Ad-aware and A-squared.

Thanks for the links. I downloaded the AVG spyware ready for install but I might as well get that spyware blaster as well. Can't hurt to have two now can it :D I guess this is all slightly off topic but it's helpping me all the same, so gracias to all of you.

Should all be coming tomorrow as well, so no doubt I'll have a question or 7 to post on here :) Comin with the new 8800gt so i might take a pic or two and post that on here.

You want the AVG anti-virus not the spyware one. AVG 7.5 is the one you need. The free one on the right hand side.

Right ok then. I'll get 7.5 and I might as well download Ad-aware 2007, because I had that before Norton and it didn't do a bad job to say the least. Threee seperate programs might not be as good as one, but if it takes away the problems that occur when you've got Norton (such as, in my case, the amount of system resources it takes up), I think that's infinitely better.

I should be gettin my rig tomottor, but the place where I ordered it from emailed me (and texted me :)) after cutoff to say that an item wasn't in stock (one of the 8800gt's actually lol). So i might not be gettin it tomorrow :( Maybe if I bribe city link or somethin ;) Anyway. Should have it on Friday. I hope. Been lookin forward to gettin it since last nite as well lol

EDIT: Do you guys think I should start a new thread if I have any problems with my build or just ask the questions in this one? I just don't really want to use up too many people's time by havin another thread.
