New Build: Advice needed

First of all let me say hi to everyone (my first post here).
Not new to building pcs been doing it for about 6 years.
I am now desperate for a new machine and my budget is round about £1000 maybe a little more if it can be justified

Right this is what i have put together

Mobo - Asus P5K Deluxe/WiFi-AP, iP35,

Ram - OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-8500 1066MHz SLI-Ready Edition Dual Channel DDR2

PSU - Antec TruePower Trio 650W PSU - With 3x 12v Rails and 120mm Fan

Case - Antec P182 Advanced PERFORMANCE ONE SERIES Super Midi Tower Case, Black

GPU - 640MB BFG Technology 8800GTS OC2, PCI-E (x16), Mem 1700, GPU 580MHz, 96Streams

HDD - 500 Gb Samsung HD501LJ Spinpoint T, SATA300, 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, 8.9 ms, NCQ

Cooling - Arctic Cooling AC-FRZ-7P Socket 775 CPU Cooler

Total = £760

CPU - Right after intel price drops it will either be Q6600 or E8650 (max im guessing £190)

Undecided on that as yet. I do a lot of gaming and also a lot video editing and DVD recoding.

So my grand total is round about £950.

I was thinking of maybe the Thermalright Ultra-120 EXTREME CPU Heatpipe Heatsink as a cooler but not sure.

I have my 19"TFT which im happy with for the minute(this will be my next upgrade)
Have the OS and have my Saitek GM-3200 gaming laser mouse(which btw is awesome, best £30 ever spent)

Anyway tell me what you think any tweaks or suggestions, but has to stay around the 1000 - 1100 price range no more

Thanks danman2k

Hey danman2k welcome to the forums. I would change a few bits of that spec, what do you think of this:

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
Noctua NH-U12F (Socket LGA775/754/939/940/AM2) Heatsink
Gigabyte GA_P35_DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Dual Channel Kit
BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB 5000AAKS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM
Samsung SH-183LBEBN 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer Serial ATA Lightscribe
Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
Lian-Li PC-7 PLUS Aluminium Midi-Tower Case - Black

Total : £1,010.93

By the time the price cuts come in it will be under a grand.

Right if your going to be overclocking go for the Quad, you should be able to get 3GHZ out of it.

The Noctua is one of the best coolers around and should keep that quad nice and cool.

The Motherboard is one of the best around to be honest. Have heard so many good things about it. Very reliable and rock solid and is a great board when overclocking. It also supports Intels upcoming new processors, the Penryns.

The Memory, although only rated at 667 MHZ will hit 800MHZ 3-3-3-12, even 1000MHZ 4-4-4-12 which will be plenty.

The Graphics Card should be great. Maybe a bit of a overkill for a 19inch monitor but like you said you will be upgrading it.

The Western Digital Hard Drive, fantastic drive and its also quite.

The DVD Drive has a SATA connection so will help with cable managnment. Also you can cancel the IDE controller on the motherboard which should mean slightly quicker boot times. Last thing is you can get rid of them ugly IDE cables.

The Coresair PSU is one of the best around. So quite.

Finally the Lain Li case is fantastic. Build quality second to none and cooling is great aswell.

However - I would drop the CPU to 6850/similar to allow higher ocing seeing as the quads run hot.

Part from that.. perrfect.

The Crucial Memory will clock to 8500 speeds so their no need to spend extra on something that you dont really need.

Dont worry though that Memory wont limit your overclock. :D

Yeah the case is mainly down to personal preference. Just make sure when picking one it will fit the GTX. ;)
