What do you think about this complaint I made?

A piece of me dies inside when I hear about customers like yourself. Want everything for which in this case is literally nothing.

Indeed, I had a housemate last year who complained to kellogg's because the strawberries in his cereal were dried and didn't look like the stock-picture perfect strawberry on the packaging. Got a £20 voucher or something for kellogg's cereal. What does he do? Goes and buys more of his favourite damn strawberry cereal!

I know what you mean...

I turned up at a mates house the other day and he had tipped all the cornflakes over the table and was staring at the box. I asked him what was wrong and he said "I know it's a cockerel, I'm just trying to find the corners".

Thanks for all the responses, I think I needed them to make me realise how unreasonable I actually was being. It's been a bad week and maybe I just needed to take it out on someone/something in some trivial way.

I think you're being a bit rash.

Made me lol :D

They're playing hardball cause you're being unreasonable. They tried to get rid of you with some free stuff which clearly hasn't worked.

Bit harsh, this is literally the first time I've ever complained to a company about anything. Maybe that's why I'm going a bit overboard about it, because unlike most Brits I'm not well versed in the art of complaining.

That's life buoy.

What baffles me most isn't OP, but the company offering him more of their product he is allergic to!! Money back would be fine.

About a month ago I purchased a couple of products from Molton Brown. Their stuff isn't cheap so I normally buy it as an occasional treat. After two weeks I developed an allergic reaction to one of the products so I ceased using it and contacted Molton Brown to let them know what had happened.

Unfortunately, in the meantime my girlfriend chucked out the product while doing a clearout of old and unused items. Molton Brown are now fobbing me off saying that because I am unable to send the item back to them for further investigation there is nothing they can do, and are simply offering me a collection of samples as a gesture of good will.

Do you think I'm being unreasonable in expecting a bit more from them? I'd happily accept a refund or an exchange for something of a similar value, but they are playing hardball. The reaction was really bad, it was a large, very itchy red rash on my arms. I have even sent them a picture of the rash to show that I'm not making it up.

If they continue to dig their heels in do I have any other option but to accept their offer of the samples?

I genuinely LOL'd at the "they are playing hardball" comment :D

But on a more serious note, and one that doesn't try too hard to show how idiotic you're being, have you considered their view on this incident (and by incident, I mean absolute non-event of no consequence)

Random apparent girlfriend-haver (hmmm) has undiagnosed and non specific reaction to a product which appeared after long and continuous use of said product with no context of other factors. Product unavailable for testing due to 'girlfriend' having disposed of the evidence.

You're lucky they're offering anything at all and the small and easy give away they're making should remind you of how nonsensical you're position is.

In short, yes you are being unreasonable and your sense of entitlement and blinkered view on how to operate as an adult is both bewildering and hilarious.

This is exactly what I thought when I first read the thread. It's like a classic "I want free stuff, give me free stuff" lines.

The whole "I have a problem with an item that I no longer have and I want you to give me stuff to make up for that problem" just smacks of being untrue from this company's perspective. I've dealt with people with this attitude myself who've been trying to get freebies, or refunds whilst keeping the products.
