what do you think is the best CPU thats been made?

Haha, another fan! I remember doing a paper round for years saving up money for a Phase5 68040/603e + Cybervision and the day I ordered it, the company went bust! Did you ever play Quake on that machine? I played the game on xmas day on my '030 at ~3 fps and being in AWE :D

Unfortunately never got to that stage with mine, had a 80MB(!) Hard drive and it was an impressive little computer for its time. I was out of the amiga scene shortly after Gateway bought the rights and CU-Amiga magazine died.

3 Months later, I had my first PC, a spanker of a Pentium 166 with 16MB of RAM!

My q6600, I think I have some kind of platonic love for it.

Bought just after release. I managed to find a budget tower -like the ones you get in supermarkets- for £250 with a q6600, this was shortly after release when they were MUCH more expensive than that. Recouped another £100 or so selling the rest of the system.

Ran it at stock for 2 months, since then it's been at anything between 3.6 and 4.1ghz, up to 1.7v, outlasted 2 motherboards and yet I still don't feel like it's even close to retirement. I'd love to see some i5 750 at stock/3.8 vs q6600 at 3.8 benchies.

for me it was the A300 it was the first chip with a really big overclock for me the p200 i had before it never had much headroom as i can remember

Core2Duo E6600.
First CPU/PC that I owned, overclocked and benchmarked.
Playing Supreme Commander into the late hours with friends in the summer of 2007 was really quite special.

I suppose my first PC cpu, the P3 600mhz:D Absolutely flew! Novelty.

Another one that performed well was my last, the AMD 4400+ X2 and my current isn't bad at all either, just not a good clocker, great temps even though they tend to run hot.

AMD X2

awesome chip, till the tides turned against it (core 2)

than my next one would be Q6600, that thing loved to be clocked

well thats a tough question, becuase evry cpu was made at its best in each era so you cant say which one is or was best, well to me Q6600 is best, cheap and hi -overclocker :)

core 2 range was special

ive probably had everything from the 486 days, i even remembered when mmx was introduced lol, that intel space station demo

q6600 is probably up there at the top, still holds its own even today

Another q6600 vote here. When it starts to underperform in games etc then il consider changing. Another 2 years atleast unless game and app devs start going mental.

My Fx55 just kept going and going and going. I didn't even see a massive upgrade when I got the the multiple core CPU's. It server me well for over three years. However, my first lover was the P4 3.0ghz that lasted me for years and just kept on giving. I think I gave it up when it started showing its age with the orginal FEAR.
