What do you think of the Cooltek W2 case

Hi guys, I have the black Fractal R3 case, but I'm thinking of changing it as I need a much smaller case, and in silver to match my monitor.

I've been looking for the past week, and for small size the best I came up with is the Lian-Li PC-A05FNA. But I'm not sure if my XFX R9 290 Black Edition would fit? If so, would I have heat problems?

I then considered the Corsair Air 540, but to my amazement it's as tall as a mid tower case.

So now, I've just come across the Cooltek W2 in Aluminium silver. It's much smaller then my Fractal R3 and might do the job nicely, as it's extremely minimalistic, small and comes with a side window panel version.

What do you think of the Cooltek and have any of you have got one? Is it possible to have a row of 3 harddrives sitting beneath the motherboard?

Thanks for answering my questions, I have 2hdds, 1 ssd and looking at the corsair 540 air builds the drives doesn't look too bad underneath the motherboard and I was thinking all 3 might fit nicely with gaps inbetween, so they look like there ment to be there. I will have to have a play, as you say its a roomy case so Im guessing the drives can go in a few places.

Its the smallest case I have come across so far for a atx motherboard and its very subtle too. The glass side panel version looks very nice because all of the side panel is glass, there no cut out, but I cant find that version to buy anywhere?

I have 2 more questions about the case....

What is the full rpm of the stock fans and are they quiet? Also the floor of the motherboard side, whats the measurements, as I still wouldn't mind having my drives there, with white velcro straps to hold them in place?

Well I have ordered the case and a silver cherry keyboard to match, but I might have to cancel the order as the place isn't that great on reviews (something nation). But I'll give it till Wednesday, then I'll prob cancel... I should have checked it out before hand.

Im going to try and stack my drives in the front of the case, longways so theres space to hide the drive cables at the side of them, or they could go straight through the bottom grommet. Then the drives will get air from the bottom 140mm fan. Then in the other side I will only have the psu and all the cables, but my idea probably wont work.

Anyway might be making a start at planning and transfering the hardware over tomorrow, as the case should be arriving tomorrow

I received the case today, someone made a bobo, as they have sent me the one with tempered glass side, so I am well chuffed.

I am hopefully going to be starting swapping over the hardware tomorrow, so fingers crossed I will be able to get it looking tidy.

Pics or it didn't happen! ;)

How much did you pay for it? Perhaps the tempered glass is replacing the acrylic version.

Hehe.. I paid £103 for the case, I dont really trust myself with the glass panel incase I break it somehow, as Im not too steady with my hands. So I got my mum to rap it up and put it in the box until the build is completed.

With the glass panel version, the side doesn't just clip on, but screws on with 4 thumbscrews.

I would start transferring the stuff today but because my hands are not awfully steady, I need a extra pair of hands..

Heres the glass panel in the box, and you can tell its glass as its got the glass warning sticker on...

Edit: That hole in the box was on the glass panel side and it looks like its had quite a hit in transit, lucky it didnt smash it.

I think I will get another glass window cut at somepont, slightly less smoked/tinted tho. I would put nice led's in but my pc tends to be on quite a lot at night due to the rest of the family watching films ect from it and I hate lights while Im going to sleep. So much so I haven't connected the hdd/power led and I have blocked of the gpu XFX led too.

Well I am not overly happy with the temps, because when I run furmark the gpu just keeps increasing until the card throttles back at 94c, but when gaming temps are in the 70's, so not overly terrible but its a tad worrying why temps gets to its max in furmark.

Today Im going to try a slightly faster rear case fan so it will be able to chuck out the warm/hot air quicker and the last resort is to redo both the cpu and gpu paste.

Edit: Ah yeah, apparently this case I have with the glass panel is a new version of the case and all are being shipped with the glass panel now.

I dont really know what you mean, If your saying put a fan underneath the gpu exhausting the air out of the expansion slots, yeah that might work. I am guessing the heat gets trapped in the lower part of the case and the rear case fan is mainly removing the heat from the cpu heatsink, but i could be wrong.

Anyway tomorrow hopefully I am going to redo the past on the gpu and replace the rear case fan with a 1200rpm one. So I'll report back tomorrow guys.

I have redone paste on both cpu and gpu and now I am happy with the temps as they are not far off my fractal design r3 case now........

These are the temps now in burntest, it had always been hitting 94c since the case change within 5mins or so(24c room temp)

the temps playing dirt rally for about 30mins.

Phil why not try stacking your hdds on top of each other and stick one fan in the bottom of the case blowing onto the gpu? This m8ght be the best temp decrease you get.

I was going todo that originally, but it doesn't look that great, but I am very happy with the temps as they are not far off with the fractal design r3 case temps since redoing both cpu and gpu paste.

Phil what are the filters like are they any good, I assume they are on the front and bottom?

Ask me again in a few months, my r3 case had excellent filters, even after a year very little dust had got in the case, and it was great not having to blow the case out every few weeks. I just brushed the dust off the front filters.

The W2 has 4 filters, 2 for the front fans, 1 that sits on the floor of the case and another for the psu.

I would love to know the specs of the stock 140mm front intake fans as I would like to buy better fans at somepoint. But I cant find the fans anywhere online?

Also my front panel keeps vibrating, I have to give it a tap to shut it up.

Something I have found out guys, the rear fan grill blocks so much air in the case, I changed the grill for the circular style one, and it knocked of 13c of the temps
