Isn't the latter a named competitor too?

Looks good- really need 8GB RAM though?
It's hit and miss on good Q6600 overclockers at the moment too. Yesterday I had one chip with a VID of 1.18v and from the same batch one with a VID of 1.32v.

I`ve got one from a popular auction site which has been run @ 3.4ghz on air so it should be quite good... could still have a high vid but if its been run at 3.4ghz then it should be ok for what I want. I know there are some really bad ones about which don't go higher then 3ghz.

You could get a ATi 4850 and it would be faster than the GT. Also do you really need 8gigs?, i have 4gigs with vista x64 and i dont even use all of that and i even do video editing.

Apart from that, looks like a nice build .

I will be using Vista 64bit, I had 4gb in my old system and fancied a bit more this time, I got the 8800GT for £ 60 its the best bang for buck you can get.

For £60 its a good buy. All sounds OK - you're probably gonna need to raise your NB voltage slightly to get the 8GB stable.

8Gb of ram is overkill , i have 4Gb and have never seen system using more than 3Gb , bit of a waste of money like everyone is saying

not if the guy wants to run a few VM's and is a high end Photoshop user etc etc

btw just about anyone i know who went from 4gb -> 8gb in Vista doesn't want to return to 4gb.
