ok so i usually pass these 'copy and paste' if you agree statuses by but i thought this one was rather good. for the record, i didn't copy and paste it onto my fb but i do think it was quite a good one.

We should place the elderly in prisons. They will get a shower a day, video surveillance in case of problems, three meals a day, access to a library, computer, TV, gym, doctors on-site, free medication if needed. Put criminals in nursing homes. They have cold meals, lights off at 7pm, two showers a week, live in a smaller room and pay rent at £4,000 a month!!! It's pretty sad that we treat prisoners better than the elderly....

As someone whose 81 year old dementia-diagnosed grandmother fell and broke her hip last night - at least in part because of the lack of care she has been given by the local authority - I agree with the sentiment of the OP.
If things are still this bad when I get old I am going to persuade a friend to put me out of my misery as soon as the diagnosis comes.

Only because of the type of people they are, it doesn't alter the prison care versus nursing home care and available funding argument.

The same could be said about the homeless, the state won't help them simply for being homeless but if they bludgeon someone to death we'll spend a few thousand pound a month available to 'rehabilitate' them.
