it's taken me a long time it seems, to realise that I don't have to trawl through a number of results after a search, tbh, I have noticed that it had got better, but now I've only just realised that it is down to Generative AI, .
I'm liking it
what about you, does it show off doing what AI can do best or do you find it scary, like a lot of people who are anti AI nowadays?

I've found it quite often gives misleading results where it mashes in a rough match of what you searched for, which might be out of context, along with a relevant search result.

I asked.

Argument for AI-Powered Search Engines:

  • Enhanced Relevance: AI can analyse vast amounts of data and understand the context of a query more effectively than traditional search algorithms. This enables it to provide more relevant and accurate results.
  • Personalized Results: AI can tailor search results to individual users based on their search history, preferences, and location. This can provide a more personalized and satisfying search experience.
  • Natural Language Understanding: AI can understand and interpret natural language queries, allowing users to ask questions in a more conversational and intuitive way.
  • Advanced Features: AI-powered search engines can offer advanced features such as voice search, real-time information, and even generating summaries of complex topics.

Argument Against AI-Powered Search Engines:

  • Bias and Discrimination: AI algorithms can be biased if trained on data that contains biases. This can lead to discriminatory results and reinforce existing inequalities.
  • Misinformation and Disinformation: AI-powered search engines may struggle to differentiate between reliable and unreliable information. This can contribute to the spread of misinformation and disinformation.
  • Privacy Concerns: AI-powered search engines collect and analyse large amounts of user data. This raises concerns about privacy and the potential for misuse of personal information.
  • Lack of Transparency: The decision-making process of AI algorithms can be opaque, making it difficult to understand how results are generated. This can lead to a lack of trust and accountability.

It give unqualified BS information - was looking the other day but seemingly can't disable it, especially if not logged in using chrome,
(but maybe I can create a childs account per V and it will go away)
only going to get worse if, following monopolies issues last week, Apple&Android are no longer payed to make it the default search

Note: Turning off the “AI Overviews and more” experiment in Search Labs will not disable all AI Overviews.

AI Overviews availability
AI Overviews are currently available:

To all users in the US who meet the minimum age requirement to manage their own Google account.
To users above the age of 18 in the UK, India, Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, and Japan.
To users who opted into the “AI Overviews and more” experiment in Search Labs, for all eligible countries, languages and account types.
AI Overviews will become available to more users, languages, and regions over time.

Show only web links in Google Search
AI Overviews are a core Google Search feature, like knowledge panels. Features can’t be turned off. However, you can select the Web filter after you perform a search. This filter displays only text-based links without features like AI Overviews.

Google is horrendous now. The first few results are dodgy AI generated nonsense that can be misleading to flat out nonsense mixed with advertising, the first actual page or two of results is super heavily filtered. A ton of potentially relevant stuff is blacklisted and won't show up in the search at all.

It's mind boggling to me that anyone could look at that travesty and find it a positive while recognising what's happening. The internet is a farce now compared to what it was, I sincerely hope Google tanks.

Chances of winning anything is slim but Bing have been doing a load of promotions to try and drive up user numbers I guess - including high value cash draws, etc.

While just plodding around on the ipad, I seen they’re doing a $1m give away sweepsteak so though, i’ll join that as well.

Clearly this is a way to data mine but thought why not! :D
