What does Curly Kale taste like?

Can I say yuck? :(

Really didn't enjoy the kale after steaming it and adding some lemon juice. Strong taste, not very pleasant, and certainly didn't get any hint of sweetness as Raymond mentioned. Give me savoy cabbage any day. Still, I might buy it now and then just for it's Lutein content.
I must admit I've never had it with lemon, but it doesn't sound quite right to me. Why not try a knob of butter with salt and pepper. You also have to make sure you cook it well enough, it's not great if it's undercooked. Each to their own though of course!

My mother-in-law dices some pancetta, frys it up, add a little garlic and then after a minute a bunch of chopped kale - tastes lovely (everything tastes better with bacon!)

We make kale crisps if we have a glut. We chop up leaves into 50 pence sized pieces, mix a bit of ground nut oil and then a bit of salt and they make a lovely side at a bbq (particularly when people have no idea what it is). Sometimes we sprinkle some smoked paprika once cooked.

I tend to buy smaller leaves of kale as the bigger the leaves the tougher they are. Just steamed for a few minutes with a little bit of butter and pepper is nice with Sunday roast too.

I think you forgot the bit about how you cook them? How do you cook them, just in the oven?

Actually yeah, that does sound like it would make it more enjoyable, as does the other suggestion to fry it and make it like crispy seaweed. I'm not sure how much of the nutrients disappear though when you fry it or over steam it.

Sorry, here you go:

- Electric oven 170 degrees C or maybe 160 for fan.
- Trim kale to remove thick stems and then trim into bite-size pieces. Wash and spin in salad spinner.
- Line a baking tray with some baking paper (I tend to rub oil and salt on that and mix up the trimmed leaves on there to save messing up a bowl).
- Bake until the edges are just turning brown (not burnt). Depending on oven this could be anywhere between 8-15 minutes but once you've nailed it with your oven it's incredibly easy to prepare.

Not a fan, I've tried it a few times in various forms, and it always seems more bitter than cabbage, and I hate bitter.

Kale has been my favourite veg since I was a nipper. Just be careful not to over cook it as soggy kale is not as good.
