What does this mean?

Speed limits on most single-carriageway roads in rural areas could be cut from 60mph to 50mph under a Government plan to cut the number of deaths in car accidents.
Road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick has noted figures suggesting crashes were more likely on rural parts of the road network, upon most of which the national speed limit of 60mph applies.

Is this true or is it more s*** from the LIARbour party??

Since when did overtaking on the left become "undertaking"? If overtaking is passing a car to get ahead of it, by that logic, undertaking is passing a car by travelling slower than it to get behind it.

It seems a dodgy area, passing on the left vs undertaking (or overtaking on the left)

you stay in lane 1 and pass a slower care in lane 2
vs
you are in lane 2, move into lane 1 to pass, then move back into lane 2

Personally, I feel it's safer staying in the inside lane than moving across 2 lanes to overtake then back again. The guy in the middle lane is at fault IMO.

Yes it is true.

It's more like 30mph around here :( Although apparently a 30 limit means 50mph and tailgate the car in front

Overtook a dawdling yaris and the also dawdling astra in front of it on a similarly wide lane as in the OP the other day. The Yaris driver seemed so horrified that I might want to get home quicker than at 30mph that they honked and flashed at me quite furiously. I really can't understand that kind of mentality??

Well seeing as this is about ranting about idiots now and not just NSL bits, bit of road on my way home, roundabout exits to 50mph sign for about half a mile. Generally you'll be very very lucky to get to 50mph before the 30 sign down the road. Gives me chances to overtake in the morning, but not on the way home so much.

Clarkey, do you wave when they honk? I like to give a nice waggly-fingers wave, as they're obviously flashing and honking to let you know you made it ok and they'd be proud if you were their son/daughter/transgender human.

If the outside lane is only going 50 *due to traffic* and the inside lane is clear then you are ok to undertake then.

Otherwise, don't do it.

You can continue on your way at the same speed you were doing, not suddenly accelerate to undertake as if you were on the inside lane!

I have been flashed before too by some moron doing 40mph in NSL zone after I passed them on a long clear straight, nothing coming the other way, left them plenty of room, etc. I just ignore them.

I confirmed this with a traffic cop and it still is driving with out due care and attention.

Scenario I used was coming off a roundabout onto a 50mph dual carriageway, I was on the left, slow car came out onto the right. I hanged back expecting them to accelerate progessively. They weren't so I carried on as I wanted to in the left and moved to the right considerately.

He went on to say he wouldn't waste his time with the offence though...

Im a Yaris driver and to me that signs means get out my way. Ima comin'.
It annoys me so much when people do 45mph on them roads. I do 60mph until I have to slow down for the corners. I dont understand why people just dont do the limit.

The best are the people who do 40 on an NSL road, and then continue to do 40/45 when they get to a 30.

All of them should be banned. :p

Chances are you're coming off the roundabout at thirty, shouldn't be that hard to reach fifty for a bit?

I'd just disregard that car tbh - if we're both coming off the roundabout pretty much side-by-side, I'd just ignore them and accelerate at whatever rate I would normally. Unless there's a lorry up ahead, in which case I'd either boot it and try to get sufficiently in front of him to move into his lane, avoiding the lorry, or accelerate more casually and slot in behind.
