Right guys and gals, just want to know what companies do when they 'tune' you car and whether its actually worth it. And would there be any benefit in getting a Ford Focus 1.6 Vi VCT tuned... would it make my car feel a bit more nippy etc?

Usually unless its FI then tuning the engine, as in remapping the existing ecu from its OEM settings to give more power will do very little.

NA cars can't really be remaped 'that much', not worth the money.

I know several people with "re-mapped" Rover V8s that would beg to differ.

Tuning is usually about getting more from an engine by increasing efficiency. A more efficient engine will produce more power for the same fuel/air mix as a less efficient engine. This can also make it more economical if driven in a conservative fashion.
