Just got a 2000dpi microsoft sidewinder, and icemat

Not sure if its just cause im not used to 2000dpi but im finding it very hard to track using the mouse on cod4 using 2000dpi..Ive tried all different mouse sensitivity settings to no avail

Most mouse have on-the-fly sensitivity I have a 2000dpi setting and 800 and 400 setting. I use 800dpi. There is an option in my mouse settings to have mouse acceleration turned off in game. I use acceleration in windows but off for games. If u have a new mouse it might be something simple like thing or the fact that you have not scaled the onscreen movement down enough to cope with 2000dpi if you are set at that all the time.

I think you hit the nail on the head in mouse acceleration.. from my understand mouse acceleration the faster you move the mouse the faster it moves:confused: erm thats not explained well erm say if i move my mouse over 2ft at 1mph then try the same thing at 5mph it will probley move more like 5ft.

If thats correct i think thats the problem, so how do i enable for windows only, and not in games.

If your mouse is worth its weight there will be an option in its drivers. If not, there will be a way via the registry, google. Before u start googling however check the regular mouse properties found in the control panel that also has the option.

Although changing the mouse sensitivity in windows is not the same as changing your mouse's dpi is it? Cheap mice have a dpi of about 300 don't they? It is only the high end / gaming mice which have a dpi of 2000.

Over 9 Thou...2 thousand :)

Although I find myself upping it slowly over time, only time it's really low is for sniping/low sens situations.

I have dpi settings saved at 400, 2200, 2600, 2800 and 3200.

I was gaming at 2800 but found that 2600 is my 'sweet' spot. I use it for desktop and gaming. I play as a sniper 95% of the time but don't lower it.

a £4.99 laser mouse which I've had for 5 years  some generic samsung.

Just had a look it's 800dpi OMC3CH ORANGE SAMSUNG OPTICAL PS2/USB
There's that bubble bursting game and the mouse is pretty off. I'm still or rather was good. So When I find a new game I like. I will have to invest in a proper gaming mouse.

1000DPI I think. I've never been one for expensive mice, about £20 is a top-end mouse in my books - about £8 is a good mouse and <£5 is a cheap one :p So long as it's 800DPI or more, it's all good!
