Hey guys,

I'm right at the end of fallout 3 ~ just need to activate the g.e.c.k at the memorial. But before I do I'm going around completing all the side quests first, getting my moneys worth etc :D

For post fo3, I've been re-reviewing oblivion. I bought it in 2006 but for some reason, installed it, played it for an hour and then left it?! I later sold it with my graphics card as a 'deal sweetener.' But after fo3, I think its time to give it another go and I've just bought the goty edition from an online outlet for about £12 (reward points and quidco – before you ask :)).

When I get it an install it what else do you think I'll need in terms of patches/modes etc to really get the best out of it? I'm using vista x64 – will that be a problem? For system, see sig.

Cheers,

SW.

Mods are Oblivions greatest strength I think. All aspects of the game can be changed by them, and there are so many.

You may want to checkout http://tesnexus.com/, I think thats one of the big mod sites, you can search by category, rating and they have mods of the month and top mod lists to give you an idea of the most popular. Also visit the official mod forums for the latest developments from the fans http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showforum=45

Glad to see they finally released mod tools for F3, hopefully we should be seeing some great things. http://www.fallout3nexus.com/

google obscuro's oblivion overhaul, or something like that.

Massive mod - i asked this same question myself when i played through (also thinking of going through again myself soon), and this changes the game to how it was meant to be played apparently.

Search for threads with oblivion in the title - there was a massive one with the best graphic overhauls etc...

Personally i wouldn't touch FCOM just yet, that changes the game
completely.

I would get things like graphic changes Quarls Texture Pack 3 Redimized (1.6gb download) that changes all the textures in the game.

Then download Qarls 4096 LOD textures and better tiling 4096 textures and kaldorns noise filter medium (part of kaldorns noise package). These will change the issue oblivion had with far range details.

Then download kaldorns improve Bruma, Bravil, and so on, these change the graphics of them towns and make them look better.

Unique landscapes all of them apart from the creek. They are amazing and give real vibrance and change to the world.

Then download Rusty Weapons and fine weapons, these improve the graphics of them.

I could go on for hours and hours and hours.

But here is a great site for you http://devnull.devakm.googlepages.com/obliviontextureoverhaul

I downloaded over 3gb of improved textures and so on and that has caused my GTX280 to be reduced down from 60fps to 40fps in some areas ;)

Took me over 3-4 hours to get it like this and i only just started!

As I've said repeatedly, do not install any mods until you've played the game for a while. Then decide what you don't like, and install mods to fix it. Just because someone else likes OOO for instance, doesn't mean you will - it makes some very serious changes to the game.

There are a couple of exceptions:

1) The BT mod, which makes the inventory screen use smaller text, so you can see more entries.

2) The Immersive Interface mod, which shrinks the HUD.

I'm listing those as exceptions as I'm not aware of anyone who likes the default interface and HUD. The various texture packs will slow your machine, and the look isn't to everyone's taste, although otherwise they're pretty harmless.

I cannot remember the name of the mod, but there is a good mod that changes the dynamics of arrow/bolt flight. One of the default annoyances was the arrow flight being slow and straight, but the mod improves on this by making them arc in flight, so lob shots over obstacles are possible. Also direct short range shots are faster and cause more damage.

There is a vampire mod which makes all vampires burn when they are killed - like the Buffy Vamps death!

Finally, there is a health/fatigue mod which drains your health and distorts your vision as you become more injured. Also, your fatigue drops the longer you are involved in combat and with each combat move.

I'm currently enjoying FO3, might reinstall Oblivion when I finish FO3. Although I'm keen on getting Mount & Blade......

This is built into the game - it's just that the game doesn't really penalise you for it, which I assume the mod does. But my previous advice still holds.
