At the moment i have:

q9550
4870 gfx
4gb xms3 ddr3
p5q3 mobo
500gb sata 2 drive
800 psu
antec 900 case
OEM 64bit vista OS

but have been considering going for the 4.00GHz i7 bundle with mobo and memory

Question is, is it a simple case of swapping out the old with the new? Or will i have to purchase any extra cables, power cables, new operating system, etc? and is the rest of my current system compatible with the bundle?

Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

I think you will need to reinstall vista.

However, you won't see that much gain in performance in games and some gain in video encoding work etc. Not worth the money IMO. Have you oc'ed ur q9550?

Nah it's still at stock at the moment as i'm not all that confident in the overclocking department. Just looking for something pre overclocked and tested. Wouldn't i see much of an improvement with this upgrade then? as i'd be using it primarily for gaming. I heard the 920s were being cut so thought i best go for it, or is there something better coming out later this year?

Youd see next to no gain, its quite easy to OC your CPU, and if you dont push it too far theres no problem, have a read of the sticky in the OCing section and raise your FSB to 400, the mobo should be able to handle this without needing too many tweeks

Don't bother upgrading. The 920's ARE supposedly getting cut, but i5 seems to be stacking up to, and beating, i7, so you might as well wait until that, or at the very least, the next generation of 1366 CPU's.

Buy a good CPU cooler, and overclock your current CPU. Save £500 for DX11 cards and future upgrades.

ok cheers, don't bother going i7 just yet then? What are the i5s going to be like? I thought they'd be the inferior mainstream cpu range
