What equipment do you use to listen to music?

That looks like a great bit of kit. Can you tell me where you bought it without enraging the mods?

You can get them on eBay for £80ish (including shipping from China) if you search "Zero DAC".

There are some other options in this price range though. Zhaolu D2.5 for example.

Whats the benefit of using a DAC?

Well, this sounds literally 10 times better than the onboard sound from my Gigabyte S3. The absence of static from the inside of my computer is nice too - hearing my mouse scroll through my headphones was quite annoying. :p

For casual listening:
HDA X-Mystique ... [optical digital] ... Aego P5 5.1 system

For reference listening:
[firewire]... Focusrite Saffire (DAC) ... [analogue] ... Headroom Micro Desktop headphone amp ... Beyer DT-880s

On the move:
Cowon iAudio D2 ... Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro IEMs

At work:
Cowon iAudio D2 ... Aego M 2.1 system

I have a feeling my Aego P5 system is on its way out though. If it finally does go kaput I think I'll finally get the Dynaudio BM5A nearfield monitors I've always wanted.

Is it only really beneficial for those who use headphones?

As long as you are using the DAC alongside decent equipment, a DAC improves whatever you use to listen to your tunes with. It's just case of getting a better DAC than is on your current soundcard, and having it in a more hi-fi friendly enviroment, ie outside your case.

There are folks on the forums that have far more knowledge than I do on the matter, but that covers the basics.

SqueezeBox->Marantz PM7001->Wharfedale Diamond 9.1s (solely for music)....

Used to have the Marantz connected to Terratec DMX 6Fire 24/96, but the SqueezeBox sounds a lot better...

Also use an Asus Xonar DX ->Logitech Z680s for DVDs/games (anologue), and Terratec Cingery 2400iDT -> X-Fi XtremeMusic -> Coax -> Lotitech Z680s...
