I'm just looking at my TV unit and out of 7 devices only 2 of them have a physical on/off switch.

It seems weird that in today's 'Carbon Footprint', expensive power, world that so many devices don't have a hard power off switch.

What happened to make the trusty old clicky off switch obsolete?

My parents have this 8way adapter plug socket thing that has an on/off button. Easy way to just press one button and cut power to everything connected to it every night.

Half of the electronics in this house have 2 modes. On, and standby. So we have no choice to try and save on the lekky bill.

We just have a nice addapter that you plug into any socket and you can power down all sockets using a remote control :)

Turn off the 360 via the 360 controller, then turn off the mains... no more standby.

Turn off the media center and TV, then turn off the mains with the remote... no more standby.

Does the job for us anyway :)

I went to see Lee Evans over the weekend and he said something that rings so true, he talked about China making all the things for the whole world 24/7 and Las Vegas always being lit up, but if HE turns off his TV then he will save the planet. Was very true.

Well, I'm not really into all this green stuff at all and while that is true, if everyone thought like that then nothing would 'save the planet'. While it's still true one person doing this won't have an ounce of difference if everybody in the country did it would definitely reduce energy levels.

why don't they just use some kinda of rechargeable battery to handle standby?
