Using star anise with beef is a legit cheffy technique! It doesn't even have to leave a detectable "star anise" flavour if you go gently with it, but it just lifts the whole dish.Beef and star anise. We put a couple of star anise in with beef that is being slow cooked and it tastes amazing.
A few weeks back we had slow cooked beef cheek pie, with suet pastry and it was heavenly.
