okay, as the title says really.

im looking into purchasing an external hard drive. want a 500 gig one preferably, money isnt really an issue as the ones i have been looking at are all under £200.

there are two that i had picked, but am open to suggestions (with reasoning).

so, i am currently considering a

seagate free agent
wd my book world edition (this has the network connection, so can be used as a network drive i assume).

really like the look of them both, and the wd has the edge with the network feature. so, just before i make the purchase does anybody have experience with either of these, and is in a position to make comment as to whether or not i should buy one of these, or something different?

cheers.

Well if your budget is up to £200 i dont think you can do better than the Freecom 500GB NAS drive:

They use samsung drives and the aluminium gets rid of the heat pretty good. Silent too. I'm happy with mine although personally i find the metal to be a bit cold aesthetically but it is sleek. 2yr warranty

i've heard enough bad things about the WD mybook so i wouldnt go there, nice looking design though

Do you need simultaneous access to the drive from multiple machines? If not then there isn't much point in going for a NAS style device, the performance isn't great compared to directly attached devices.
