What extra information would you like to see on your dash?

Nothing really. Don't look at my dash very often anyway. You don't really need a great deal of information when driving. Any additional information would just be distracting and not really needed. Most of the time you can even judge your speed easily enough, especially when in traffic.

Oil temp really. Boost pressure if my car was turbo.

Got voltometer, oil pressure, MPG, miles left, clock, average speed, current speed, stopwatch, trip computer, outside temp, shift indicator, rev counter, speedo, coolant temp, fuel gauge and odometer.

Can't see the need for much else tbh!

I currently have Oil Temp, Boost, AFR, RPM, Speed, Oil Pressure, "Water Temp" and Fuel. I don't even really try and take all that information in, it is just handy to have it there should I need it. Maybe knock would be a good one but you only need an LED for that really. I personally am at my limit of where I could bear any more information to be displayed, I've got a 3-gauge pod above my stereo and I don't want any more dials anywhere else really.

I can't actually think of anything more that I could add. I suppose you could have a lap timer or something on there if you were taking to the track quite often.

On the 200 I have everything I need including the defis in a pillar pod but on the XF I kind of miss a temperature gauge.

There are a few things I'd like to see, not because they are useful but just because they appeal to my nerdy side.

Individual tyre temp
Intake air temp
Exhaust gas temp

What mcu are you using for the project? Hardware canbus would make life very easy but i've not seen many chips which have that while being in a hobbyist friendly package.

I have a vague plan to augment air con to climate control, part of me thinks it would be cool to have servos on the heater controls to control it but I want to have a look at the cars data buses and see if I can hijack that for a stealthy install

An animated face that gets angrier and angrier as your average RPM goes up, and sleepier and sleepier as it goes down..

Maximum G per trip

SPL meter

Animated boobs

I'd usually go the AVR/Arduino route, - this has been my preference until now, as I'm at home with C/C++.

I am trialling a FEZ Panda II (NETMF) for this project though. Given what I want to do with it, it's native FAT and CAN support with all that extra ram makes it a very good candidate (at least I hope so!)

It's been a while since I used C# though, and I wasn't keen last time - we'll see how it goes :p
