Will be looking to buy my first car soon so i'm really just looking for some advice on what cars to consider. I'm 19 tomorrow and have not got my licence yet (will be starting lessons very shortly).

Under £2000 please

Usually I prefer smaller cars :)
 
I'll have a look at the Fiesta's now cheers.

Will be insurance be cheaper today at 19 years old compared to the quotes i've had when I was 18 even though I had no NCB or anything like that.
 
I quick check of Quinndirect pulled up a £1695 third party fire and theft quote for a 2000 Zetec 1.25?

Surely that's a little high for that car?
 
Does seem quite high, run a quote through confused and see what comes up, then whatever company comes up cheapest run the quote again through their site.

Also try Elephant and add a female driver with 20+ years driving experience to your quote, that knocks a bit of their quotes.

:( Sad isnt it lol welcome to the world of insuring a car as a young male, this is the reason i still dont have a car and wont get a car untill im paying more for the car than the damn insurance.
 
Ive been told in the past that the insurance cost on the car in question is abit steeper than that of an equivalent car of a different manufacturer due to ford doing free insurance at some point and quite a few young people buying them only to write them off.

Dont know if its correct but its quite possible.
 
I got my first car a couple of weeks ago - W reg Nissan Micra. Can't fault it, but doubtless some on here will ;) So my vote goes for a micra! I paid £900 for insurance (21yr-old male, no no claims) so if you're a year or two younger you could probably get the car and insurance for about £2500 total.
 
just get a £200 banger for 6 months cos there is a good chance you will damage it.
 
Yea, your best bet is get a cheap 1st car and run it round for a year.

If you can get on direct line under your parents name then u can build up a years no claims too, not sure if you have that option though.

Good idea at first, until a year later you get your renewal quote which you can get cheaper elsewhere. But then you suddenly realise you cannot transfer that first years no claims bonus to another insurer as it only applies under Direct Line policies.
