Had my D40 a few months & think I need to invest in a seperate flash unit as most of my pics are indoors of the kids. Would the SB600 be the one to go for at around £125 or are they any cheaper ones worth looking at?

Thanks

Edit - OK so seems the SB400 would be fine, looks like I will go with that

SB600 can be controlled remotely (though only by an SB800 or SU800 on the D40), which I don't believe the SB400 can. I don't believe the SB400 can be tilted or rotated either, which will limit possibilities when you'd like to bounce the flash off the ceiling. In the SB400s favour is its size though. Basically it depends on what you want to use it for. I went with the SB600 as you never know when the extra flexibility comes in - I bought another within a month along with an SB800 to control them both in portraits.

I'd get an SB600, personally.

You can rotate the SB400 vertically but not horizontally, which obviously makes bouncing possible but limited.

You also can't fit diffusers to it, which might be a concern.
