What folding project is right for me?

Hi guys

sorry i'm a little new to this

I'm running fx-8350 5ghz on 8 cores and a hd7970 1.1ghz/1.5ghz. 16gb ddr3 1600.

I know it's no mining rig, just my desktop, but I might only use it 2-3 hours a day with all the time i'm at work at the moment, the rest of the time it could be folding.

I've just started doing F@H and thought i was doing ok with 20k ppd but i've read some people are getting way more, even with similar stuff. Someone told me it's F@H that doesn't work well with amd stuff, so my question is which project will best use my hardware?

i dont have a bitcoin wallet or anything i'm just doing this to help out. any advice would be great! thanks!

err 20k ppd is helping out. infact thats good ppd.... them with higher ppd have either more than one pc / or more than one nvidia gpu.

and then theres biffa and loudbob with 10 of everything.... .lol

are you folding for this team or another team?

i literally started folding last week. i've just been doing it on my own at the moment, i don't know anyone else really that does it =X

does being in a team help the work more?

i don't know if I actually do get 20kppd, its just what F@H says at the bottom, but i'm sure there are days less/more WU get finished than others.

For the gpu you will get the most return for the electric used by switching to Boinc and signing up for the milkyway@home project, you will get about 200,000 ppd or RAC in boincterms, thats points per day. It takes a little longer to build up but an interesting project nonetheless

you need to make sure you add the correct details or you wont be entered into a team.

I average around 15-20k on my 4.6Ghz 3570k so 20k ppd for an inferior cpu is alright

It seems to be down to what WU you have. I avoid 7545 or w/e they are called with TPFs of around 20 minutes. Just restart my smp as they're nasty little WUs that take me about 3 days to complete and put my ppd down to about 2k...

yeah i've noticed that! sometimes i'll get some silly WU thats only 300 points and it takes 1-2 days -.-

untill you decide what project you waant to run, you should add the team id as 10 if you havnt already done so.

weirdly my SMP has stopped working all together.

no crashes, no errors reported, it's simply not folding

has been on 0.00% for hours and is listed as running.

any ideas?

OC is very mild and prime tested for 24 hrs.

remove the smp slot so nothing is there then add another smp slot. That should reset it. That's how I change unwanted WUs.

you are showing on the server, but you arnt part of team 10 , you need to add were it says team and add the number 10

omg stop pushing it =P

once i get up to speed and can put in some 24/7 work i'll pick a team (yes probably yours since you're helping me). right now i'm getting thru the teething problems and not leaving computer on all day so i dont wanna commit yet.

i ran a prime95 today for over 10 hours and nothing wrong at all. would me having page file turned off be affecting this at all? got 16gb 1600 ddr3 so figured i didn't need pgfile =X

is stuff like -bigadv still useful on this release of f@h?

bigadv is only usefull if you have 24 threads or more. So you would need either two dual Xeon's or a couple of Magny Cours Opterons at minimum.

BOINC seems to be running more consistently for me, less hold ups and not so many dud WU, do we have a BOINC team?

We have teams for most boinc projects

Whenever you feel the need just go to your selected projects account page and search for OCUK or Overclockers in the team section and you should find the team listed then select it to join.
