What game files do i need to backup (HL2 and others)

Hi all,

I'm going to be reinstalling windows soon and wanted to backup the actual game files for:

HL2
HL2M
HL2:Lost Coast
HL2:EP1
HLDM:S
HL:S
DOD:S
CS:S

I don't want to backup the savegames, just the actual game files to save time 'updating' the game. Now what files do i need to backup so that i just have to copy them back into their appropriate folder? I would just backup the whole Steam folder but there's a lot of things in there that i'm sure i won't need to backup.

Backup everything in SteamApps. All the files that are .gcf formate.

Or, just right click a Steam game, select backup, then select the games you want to back up, and it'll create DVD sized files for you.

I personally just copy the .gcf files. The other folders in SteamApps are generally just for configs and custom data that will change during gameplay, and not needed when backing up really.

Thanks mate, i don't really fancy copying all of the files to DVD.
