What game 'hooked' you the most?

For me it was an Unreal Tournament modification called Strikeforce. I played that regularly on the UT engine for HOURS. It was a Counterstrike clone but had such a small community that you knew all the people you played against.

It just had that essential element of playability and the 'just one more go' factor. Sadly, they moved development to the UT2004 engine and it was just never quite the same game....

Battlefield 2 is having a good go at stealing my life at the moment as is Pro Evo 5. But nothing will come close to Strikeforce for the amount of gaming hours.

So what game grabbed you, and why?

Soldier Of Fortune 2 had me hooked for 2.5years. Played it every day for a few hours atleast, got hooked on it because of the small community and the fact that 99% of the people were friendly and it was such a laugh on IRC and teamspeak during games.

Battlefield 2 has got me hooked, i just hope with the booster packs it keeps me going for at least 2yrs :)

For me, it was Ultima Online. I played that damned game for about 5 years. It seemed great at the time. But now, I want that time back (btw, I know I can't...). I suppose one thing I've gained from it is, I'll never play another online rpg, or whatever they're called, again.

Everquest, during college I think I spent every spare hour I had playing it for just under 2 years :o Still look back fondly on those days though :p
Stopped because I needed to concentrate on my A-Level exams, then after a few weeks break I just didn't feel the urge to play it quite as much.

From order of age:

FF7 - played it over and over and over when I was 11ish
Legend of Mir - First step into MMORPGs and got severely hooked
DAoC - See above
Jedi Knight 2 - only fps type game I have ever been hooked by. Never used weapons, sabers all the way. Not much was more fun then having 1v1 saber duels, lots of skill required! Still play it ocassionally with an old patch (the one without nerfed backstabs). 2 handed flying backstab for *** win!
WoW - hooked for a couple of months but decided to wasting on my life on what is essentially just a time sink

City of Heroes. It was my first ever PC game (unless you count the old Amstrad CPC 464 days :p). I played it for about 10 or 11 months solid absolutely hooked. I think what grabbed me was the graphics/sheer size and most of all the community aspect. I now seem to have a penchant for games where i can interract with other people forming teams and strategies between us. Nothing compares to being wholly successful through co-operation, teaming and sticking to and creating great strategies.

Between the days of having my old Amstrad as a kid and the beginning of last year when i picked up City of Heroes i played my games on consoles ranging from the Sega Mastersystem up to and including PS2/XBox. Now? Consoles were sold within a month of starting PC gaming last February and i wouldnt look back XBox 360 or no XBox 360. Now i've started playing things like Half Life 2, CSS, Star Wars Battlefront 2 etc and i see many more years of enjoyment to come from gaming and all thanks to City of Heroes. If i hadn't played that then i think i would have given up on gaming as i was at the point with the consoles where i would go through stages of playing it for a couple of weeks then letting it gather dust for months on end due to games becoming almost indistinguishable between them.

Prolly a bit long winded but hey i'm sure i was a set of bagpipes in a previous life ;)

Counter Strikes, I must stop really because i play it too much. Condition Zero was my favourite.

Same here, was obsessed with Condition Zero to the point where I just couldn't quit. :) But now with my new system in place and some of my favorite CZ servers are migrating to Source, I'm trying to move on to CSS.

A combination of RTCW/RTCW:ET. Played those for yeeeears pretty much non stop :p

I'm on BF2 a fair bit nowadays but RTCW had me more hooked.

Defintley Netstorm
Old game, and one of the most addictive games I know, even though it itself is not very well known.
Also, it is now free :D
www.netstormhq.com if you are interested.
Easy to learn, difficult to be good at, impossible to master, but oneof the most addictive games ever :D

DAoC for me. I played EQ before it and am now heavily into WoW but me and the Wife have never gone anywhere near the 6pm - 5am sessions we used to do on weeknights in DAoC. Cracking game.
