What game wowed you the most when you first played it?

Final Fantasy VIII - Up until this game I had never played an RPG, and the scale of this game just wowed me. I remember the Christmas I got it I spent most of my school holiday playing it! I loved the other FF's, but FF8 was the most memorable as it was my first.

Metal Gear Solid - Amazing graphics [at the time] and awesome gameplay and storyline.

Those and Half life.
 
C64 Days: CJs elephant antics.
Nes Days: SM3 (I lost sleep over the excitement for this game! - "The Wizard" stoked it further ahah).
Snes: SMW (perhaps z3 too).
N64: Mario64 - all I could say is "WoW".
Ps2: FF7 (still an epic game).

Half Life 1.......I thought it was bloody amazing!

I installed it on the buy for a pound Steam thing last week and it's still great even today!
 
Quake II online

But for storyline and since it was probably the first bullet time style game to hit the PC, Max Payne!
