What GPS (Tomtom) to get fr my dad ?

What GPS (Tomtom) to get for my dad ?

I am basically posting this for my dad as he is after a GPS, not having a car myself i have no idea what is good and what is bad. So I am asking all the motor guru here which GPS (tomtom?) are best for value, good signal, good interface...etc (etc as i don't even know what qualities to look for in a GPS apart from accuracy !)

Something around £300 would be good.

Look no further then the TOMTOM ONE, this is the cheapest of the TOMTOM Range, but has the most accurate GPS chipset, fast processor, etc, etc, these are £230 and stupendous VFM...

TomTom are just about to launch updated Go devices, but these will just have the same processor/GSP Chipset as the ONE, but will have some 'added' features to justify the difference in price..

What about the Tomtom 300? is it much better?

I think the TT ONE is very good value, I went the PDA route

Hi,

I've had the TomTom ONE for awhile now and its excellent. I highly recommend it. I'd go with the ONE over the 300 considering it has a faster processor and a more accurate chipset.

Strange that its cheaper but more accurate and faster !

The 300 has a better speaker and much better battery according to the TomTom rep where I used to work.

I would go for the One, its a nifty little piece of equipment. Saying that I went the PDA route which was cheaper and much more features if you don't mind it not being all in one.

IIRC history of the TomTom is

1st generation - TomTom Go
2nd generation - TomTom 300, 500, 700
3rd generation - TomTom Rider, ONE, 510, 710, 910

It's for the software and GPS (serial) mouse only. You'd still need a PDA.
