What GPU for my new build?

I'm building a new machine in around 8 weeks time and I'm after some advice about graphics cards. Marriage and kids have kept me somewhat out of the loop for a while so I'm a little behind in the hardware world. I'm trying to decide which (£150-£200) card would give best bang for buck. Ideally I'll want to SLI/xfire 2 of these in my new machine.

Two options:
1. A decent 700-750W PSU with GTX560 SLI
2. A decent 850W PSU with 6950 2GB (unlocked to 6970) Crossfire

Option 1 would be quieter and cooler running, but option 2 would offer more performance, but runs louder and hotter. And ideally, pick a decent motherboard which the two PCI-E x16 slots have reasonably amount of space between, so the top card won't sit right on top of the bottom card and can't get air-intake properly.

Thats immense, thanks Marine. So 560GTX Ti in sli should do the job for me then. Question for 560 owners then, are there any issues I should be worried about, overheating cos of SLI config etc?

I've been trying to find a way to justify getting an ATI but due to past bad experiences with overheating etc, I've fallen into the nVidia fanboy pits, lol.

Just my 2 pennies worth
I have 2 480's in sli and my heat is 38 and 42 idle and 65 and 75c load in crysis 2,with occt i hit 75 & 85c load so not to hot but if your case is NOT sufficiant then i would go gtx 5** series as run cooler etc

A 570gtx is basicly the same as a 480gtx in performance but run cooler

for sli i would personally put a 1k psu in , I know that you could get away with less but better to be safe and have a fully stable rig

What motherboard and cpu etc are you looking at? is this rig just for gaming or crunching converting etc etc as well as ??

I'm building a gaming rig. I've got another thread in the CPU forums asking advice over there as I've been out of the hardware side of things for a while. Trying to debate the i7 950 over i7 2600k. Just wondering if doing it dual channel with the newer CPUs has an advantage over the tri-channel old i7 builds.

2600K = MASSIVE OC PROTENTIAL and excellant choice for gaming etc over the 950 IMHO

would look at the motherboards though for sharing of usb3 and pci-e lanes as they can slow them to 8x if enabled on some boards i have read (1155 boards i think)

4 to 8gig of fast Good ram with nice tight timings will make the rig fly

Dont forget the SSD lol i have a hybrid drive in my laptop (better value for money and 5 years garentee) they rock i also use a 60gig corsair force ssd partnered with two sata3 Western digi black drives for the gaming rig

But its all a matter of choice

Are you looking to water cool the beast?

SLI 2 MSI Twin Frozr II GTX560Ti's and you'll be laughing at every game. I've got one of them and it's a quiet card and never goes above 65c under full load, 27/28 on idle.
