That other thread got me thinking about when Crysis first came out in 2007. At the time I had an 8800gts 320mb gpu and an AMD 4400 overclocked to FX 60 level. It would run it at 1280x1024 medium/high settings at 50fps. I thought it was the dogs ******** at the time.

Anyone else remember what they had and if you were happy or annoyed at the performance?

IIRC I had a 7950GX2 when they released the demo or whatever and 8800GT SLI when the game was released.

IIRC was like my first ever run of the demo benchmark.

EDIT: Dates and the UI in the screenshot don't match my memories actually - that was the first benchmark run I did after sticking the 7950GX2 into my second machine when I upgraded.

EDIT2: Hardware I had around then included a Q6600 and E6600 both usually clocked between 3.6 and 3.825GHz a 7950GX2 and 8800GT SLI - not sure exact dates on what now.

I had a Shuttle SD37P2,with a 975X chipset, running an E4500 at 3.1GHZ(IIRC). Tried the game with an X1900GT and then replaced that with an HD3870 GDDR4 since I couldn't get hold of an 8800GT at launch quick enough.

I then played it a few months later on my other desktop which had an overclocked E4300 running at around the same speed as the E4500 in a P35 based motherboard but this time with an 8800GTS 512MB.

i think i had a amd 4800+ and nvidia 7800gt before i could play it at any playable framerates, i remember when the demo came out,i was at a local lan and the only one there that was getting decent fps was a guy with 8800gt sli

I specifically upgraded just for crysis, ocuk order below! (Amusingly I only just upgraded from that monitor, 10 years old, going strong :))

Gave the CPU (Q6600) to my dad who is still using it. The 8800GTs sadly went to the tip - by the time I was done with them they weren't much good to anyone else and used too much power just to be used as a basic 2D card, etc.

Still have 2x E6600, Q9550 and the Xeon equivalent of the Q9550 sitting around probably never get used but hence why I've got a couple of LGA775 boards in spare parts.

I was rocking my first "from-scratch" build when I first tried Crysis:
Q6600 @3.0GHz, Antec 900 Case, Asus P5WDH Deluxe, 8GB DDR2 800MHz, HD2900 PRO, Hiper Type-R 580W PSU.

Anyone see the couple of issues with the build? :D I'll give you a clue - the PSU and the GPU!

I remember upgrading to a 3870, then a 4870 512MB, then 4870 1GB Crossfire, then finally a 5870 before I could actually get decent performance on higher settings at 1600x1200. Good times! :D

At that time, I was still running a single core athlon 64 3700 san diego overclocked to 2.9GHz in a DFI lanparty NF4 ultra with 2GB OCZ PC4000 ram and a Radeon x850 XT PE. I upgraded the x850 to a 3870 at some point around the end of 2007.

AMD Athlon 4400+ / 8800 GTX / 3 or 4 GB of system memory.

I think my CPU was the weak point. Some of the time the performance was quite good, but in other instances, the frames plummeted (played at 1680x1050).

Wow look at that £255 for the 8800gtx that was good value back then. I got my 8800gts for something like £190 brand new. It overclocked like hell too which made an actual noticeable difference in the game.
