Hello All,

i cannot decide on what GPU to buy so after some advice.

i currently have a aging Radeon HD 5830 1GB and my budget is around £150 to £180. I have been looking at picking up a new card when the black Friday hits.

so far i have been looking at the 380s and 960s as they are around my budget.

the 380 i quite liked was the nitro

or the SSC 960 (a little over budget)

for my budget what do you guys think is the best option? other thing i was thinking of is the MM but as i never get chance to spend money on my PC i would like a card which will last, is DX12 as well something worth getting when its finally released as this was putting me off getting a second hand gpu (770, 780 etc) as they dont support DX 12.

i game at 1080P on a 22" LG monitor and have a I7 950 @ 4.2ghz with 6GB of ram and a SSD. The games i play are killing floor 2, CSGO all the lego games for my son and possible fallout 4 etc

I'm inclined not to worry about DX12 just yet. By the time we have a reasonable variety of DX12 titles to choose from, I expect there will be a new cards better equipped to take advantage of it.

Out of the two cards you mention, I would rather take the 380; it'll be (best case scenario) around a little over 15% faster than the 960.

Is your budget flexible at all? The only reason I ask is because there is currently a GTX780 going for £200. However, what the build quality & noise is like, I don't know, but if staying with your original budget then the 380 is the way to go.

thanks for the reply, it can be flexible but not by much and if there is a card worth getting for £200 i may save a little longer for it.

i am open to other options on gpus so it doesnt need to be them two cards as they where the two i was looking at.

The 780 doesn't look like a bad card either

I would see if you can get another £20 or so on top of the budget before black friday. Wouldn't surprise me if there was a crazy 390 deal or something for the £199.99 mark.

Killing floor, CS go and the lego games wont be an issue regardless of the card you choose. FO4 is another story and requires a fair bit of grunt even at 1080. That isn't to say you wont be able to get playable frames after only knocking down 2 or 3 settings a touch. Are you not a fan of grabbing some second hand card off MM?

MM is a option, i always seem to miss the good deals on there lol but i do keep an eye in there.

i normally get paid a bit before black Friday so i should be able to scrape the £200 mark.

will keep an eye out on the MM till then :)
