What GPU would be a good match for my Q9550?

I currently have a GTX260 216 in my Q9550 (running at 3.4ghz) system. I was wondering what a good match GPU for my pc would be? Or would I be best off keeping the GTX260 until up upgrade the whole system (year or so I'd say).

What is your budget and what resolution do you game at? Also what games are you looking to play in the forseeable future?

I have a 24 inch dell monitor 1900x1200 resolution. Doubt I'd spend more than £200 tops. Games? Will probably play crysis 2 and skyrim when it comes out.

GTX 570 or ATI 6950 or Asus GTX 480 (which is on offer right now, make sure you have good air flow in your case) would go great with that pc and give you maybe even 2-3 more years of gaming fun at pretty high game settings.. I use a Q9650 at stock 3.Ghz with my ati 5870 and all games are maxed out and work fine and only time I overclock my cpu is for FSX.

What motherboard do you have, PSU, RAM, OS ?

PSU is a 650 watt corsair, the motherboard an Asus P5Q with 4gb of ddr2 gskill ram. It's still a pretty good system I feel. Maybe the GPU lets it down a bit. OS is windows 7 home premium 64 bit by the way.

you might want to wait until later this year, when next gen amd cpu's, as well as nvidia and ati cards are coming out, unless you feel that your system is unable to play what you want to play at acceptable levels of details and smoothness

New ones are dual GPU cards that are coming out, for £200 price range it will not happen.

If your air flow in the case is good I would seriously think about the Asus GTX 480 then mate, it's a great card for the money and matches a GTX 570 just runs a little hotter thats all. Best bang for buck at moment and really won't get that sort of performance for that price with any other product.

I won't be replacing my motherboard and CPU for a good while yet as I feel the Q9550 at 3.4ghz is still a very rapid processor. I don't consider the newer CPUs massively faster unless you are talking about encoding and compiling in multi threaded apps.

Yes I will not be changing mine too until the Intel 2011 socket CPUs come out with maybe 8 or 12 cores. Just no point if you are a gamer and everything I use runs more then fine for me, saving 1 minute on 30 minute video encode is not going to change my life on Sandybridge and for games any good Quad core @ 3Ghz+ is more then good enough and games are finally starting to use Quads recently so anything with more cores currently is overkill for games.

I was thinking the gtx480 was about 50% faster than my gtx260! So that's a bit of an eye opener!

No it's a lot faster then the GTX 260 thats why I say it's a great buy for under £200 currently. I went from an Ati 4870 Toxic to an Ati 5870 and was a big jump was almost double the performance, you should see an even better performance boost than my upgrade. :D

Just remember it's on offer currently for under £200 it may go up again.. As did the ati 5870 from £170 on offer to now £240, so don't be suprised if it shoots up again..

ive only just got rid of my Q9550, what an amazing cpu that was! i ran it at 3.4 for about a year then changed to 3.6 about 6 months ago. what a change it made to load up and games. I had a gtx295 on that board and it was fantastic played every game at max settings without a sweat!
