What graphic setting will oblivion run on this?

Oblivion is far more limited by CPU/memory than by Graphics card. That's going to be where you suffer (I see it on my rig, dropping the resolution doesn't really give an increase in frame rate, nor does overclocking the gfx card (6800), overclocking the CPU (a 2.4c P4) provides a clear increase in performance). I'm thinking a decent increase in ram will help (only have 512meg at the moment), because I'm not wanting to upgrade the rest of my system until conroe comes out :)

It's going to be your CPU, not your graphics card, that lets you down with that setup.

I want to play this on my current rig

9800Pro
3Ghz P4
1Gb RAM

But it will only need to go up to 720x1280 as it will be on the projector, do you think I'll get decent frame rates?

MB

You mean 1280x720? You'd have a very tall screen otherwise :p ... anyway.

It should run it, but I'm not really sure how well. Probably reasonable on low detail. Unfortunately there's no demo, and likely will not be a demo, so you can't try it out.

You've got to remember that he has a Celeron which is really very very bad for games

At best, it'll perform like a 1.8Ghz Northwood P4 so you'd be looking at 800x600 or 1024x768 if you're very lucky. Both with medium details and no AA or AF or anything

Stick a new CPU in and you'll easily be able to play at 1280x1024 with AA and AF

Can't afford a new CPU. I won't be able to have one until at least xmas, im only 15 and i have no way of getting that sort of money.

I will let you know how it does, i should be getting my gfx card soon.

But the gfx card im having will be so much better than my current one, so there will be some performance.

Not so, it seems there's a lot of misinformation in this thread based on outdated info. The Celeron D is an improvement over the old NW based versions, for a start it has DOUBLE the L1 cache, DOUBLE the L2 cache, and a higher FSB to boot. A 2.93ghz Celeron D utterly DESTROYS a P4-1.8A, even in games.

As you can see, while the NW-based Celeron 2.6 was a bit rubbish, the D-based 2.8 is leading the pack.

Now, I'm not trying to say that the Celeron Ds are a fast cpu by today's standards, because they aren't. But they certainly aren't as bad as people would have you believe :)

sorry for the thread hijack but:

I'm having problems getting it running at the moment, its starting the game and everything fine but when I start a new game its starting but everything is bright white.

I;ve tried updating my graphics card with the latest drivers (geforce) but its made no difference any ideas ?

Has it worked previously?

nope first time i've put it in.

Checked on the official forums and found that my card Geforce ti4 400 isn't suported but theres a patched exe and some shader files to sort it. I;ve applyed them and its working ok now.

Little slow (but thats my system) , but its working ok.

while were on a bit of a hijack spree.....

will this run on low - medium.

comp is an athlon mobile clocked to 2.5ghz , 6800gs 16 pipes, 1gb ram ?

Well i dont know about your settings but on my getting old and creaky P4 3.06 HT, 2gb ram, geforce 5900 it is playable but chuggy on low, so i think anybody with a 6000 series should be ok. Im waiting until the next gen (NV80) of graphics cards before i upgrade though, then i will be able to blow oblivion away. Unified shaders, yummy.

That should be fine

My brother runs it on medium with a 9800Pro and the 6800GS is a fair bit quicker (he has a mobile barton clocked at 2.5GHz too with 1GB of ram)

Hmm I was running one step up from that up until a few days ago (3.2GHz, 9800XT and 2GB RAM) and I had no jerkyness, though of course I couldn't turn on HDR.
