you know brilliant opening music or just great tracks. just been discussing this with ltmatt on twitter. when you listen to older games they seemed to have such great music.is the music side neglected now ?

what are your fav music/tracks from games

ill get us started

quake Theme. they hit the nail on the head (terrible pun) by getting Nine Inch Nails to do the music for it. That grungy electronic industrial sound fit the game so well I thought :D

same could be said for the UT theme too :D made me want to jump in and get fragging!

All the songs from Ultima/Ultima Online. Fit the game perfectly, each town had at least one theme, various themes when out exploring for different areas and combat. just really helped with the mood and atmosphere :)

Bf2 intro/map music :D

The last time I had truly great music in a game was Halo... The first one, nothing will beat the audio tracks in that game as it was such a memorable game for me.

Du du du dunnnnnnn

DU DU DU DUNNNNNNNNN

Games that i've sat and listened to OSTs from:

Regularly:
Unreal Tournament
Mass Effect

Occasionally:
Falcon 4
STALKER
Skyrim

Also, dare I mention this...

Minecraft... I'm totally new to it and still have only ever created iron stuff and never even found a diamond in the months and months I've owned it as I only play it when really bored.

Just to build something stupid or explore.

But, the sound/music that kicks in from time to time is brilliant and really adds to the atmosphere.

I've been listening to the music from Banjo-Kazooie lately, so good.

Total annihilation had a superb ost too.

Game OSTs these days seem a bit bland or try to hard to be 'epic' or edgy.

N64 Rareware titles had fantastic music

Are there any classic composers any more, akin to ye olde Rob Hubbard, the master of SID.

I always liked Jeremy Soule's work. He's written tonnes of great game music.

NWN, Elder Scrolls MW/Skyrim to name a few. :)

As for Deus EX - HR... there's something really hypnotic about that music. Loved the score to that game, it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end sometimes.
