My gearbox is strange, I can hit 60 in 2nd, then 3rd, 4th and 5th all have relatively short ranges. As far as I know it's a standard box on a 1.4 205, but it has a really short shift (the amount you move the stick) compared to most non GT/GTi 205s. And it has trafficlight GP range in 1st and 2nd.
Still, it's a fun little car, and is the best thing I can afford at the moment.
On the topic of dropping gears, I often flick down my gears using engine breaking (syncro-mashing), not normally as sever as 4th/5th at 60mph to 2nd, but close, and it's happy enough with it. It does prefer going 60mph in 2nd then into 3rd than the other way round though.
