What happens when a game passes the VRAM Limit?

I'm playing Crysis 2 modded and Precision X shows that it's using more than the 2Gb VRAM on my sli 670's, would this bork my cards?

I have 16Gb Samsung Green Ram
i5 3570K 4.6Ghz

no it won't break them... cards will often show they are using more than their specified amount but if you are not getting massive FPS drops then the card is managing the memory ok and just filling what is available

in any case, memory usage wouldn't lead to a broken card, just FPS drops

When a cards vram fills up am sure it go's to the page file hence why you get massive slow down.

When playing the game at it's max settings:

I would notice shadowing and white artefacts at the distance, I just wondered if that was because I had ran out of VRAM?

The game still played at 100fps though.

More likely a mod imperfection / driver confliction. My card was fine, so yours will certainly will be.

Game will stutter occasionally to 0 or single digit FPS if you run out of VRAM. You'll definitely know if you're running out of it!
