What have I done? :(

I wouldn't try booting it again after that incident personally, and instead dismantle the system so you can inspect each component properly. Not much fun admittedly, but given your description of what happened I'd expect something to be damaged or burnt out.

I agree. There's no point trying to boot it again until you know what happened. Something burned, and whatever it was is either broken, or will never perform reliably again. I think you should closely inspect every component out of the case, and try and test them individually in a another pc if possible.

+1 for inspection and testing individually.
I'd be looking for residue on neighbouring components.
The blue heatsink may be more wobbly now due to a hole in the chip underneith, does it feel uneven when you wobble the heatsink?

Ok, so it is easy to see what has happened with the board out of the case. Clearly has a small crack in it right behind that heatsink. Cant get a picture that shows it right but I it looks like the board is toast. Maybe at some point i must have applied too much pressure to the heatsink and damaged it. Have not had the chance to check everything else is working yet, but I assume they are built that if one part goes it is pretty well isolated. :(

Ok, so I got a new mobo today the http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-350-GI&groupid=701&catid=1903&subcat=2046

Installed it thinking everything would be fine and the upgrade wouldn't hurt anyway. Only thing is it does not come with any outputs to my monitor, so I have to install my graphics card. All done. When I power up my system she powers up fine and everything seems ok, put on the monitor and nothing, nothing at all. As I have no other graphics cards around I cant test with a different one so I just dont know what to do anymore.

Any ideas at all on my next step? I am thinking about getting professional help. :(

The motherboard might have taken your graphics out with it, try to borrow/buy a cheap one just to rule it out.

The trouble is it could also be CPU or memory... when a motherboard cracks who knows what kind of currents/voltages are going where.

What gfx card have you used? swapping gfx cards is always certain to upset windows. Do you have any bios post image as the system starts up? You did connect any extra power cable to gfx card needs didn't you?
